"Alrog!" Fieayz sounded genuinely pleased as the young Holder appeared.
"What brings you to the Smith Hall today?"
"Trade, actually," Alrog replied with a warm greeting-smile. "I'm trying to get our iron sold to the hall."
"Do you have time for a walk?" The Hallmaster was going to be occupied for a while, and Otrina also seemed to be busy, it could be as public, or as private as they wanted.
"Sure do," Alrog repled and offered her an elbow.
She took it, linking her arm and smiling up at him. "Do you want to head towards the main Hold?" she asked.
"All right," Alrog agreed and they started to walk. "How have you been, and how's Arva? I've seen her more lately than I've seen you."
"I've been good, just not been able to get away, which is why Arva has been so busy. She really is worth it."
"She is. Lapis really likes her," Alrog said.
"She's got a soft spot for him too," replied Fieayz. "Maybe that's meant to tell us something."
Alrog smiled bit uneasily and decided to switch subject. "Did you hear that my sister finally had her baby? A cute little girl. I'm a uncle now."
"Awww, does she look like your sister or her husband?"
"Like both actually. My sister's eyes and mouth, her daddy's hair and cheeks," Alrog said.
"Maybe she'd like visitors, I mean if that's okay with you and them?" It was a polite enquiry, and one that gave her good reason to leave the immediate area of the Smith Hall.
"She loves visitors. She likes nothing more than show her baby around and listen people prise her," Alrog grinned.
"I'm sure the Hallmaster would let me go, if I had a suitable and appropriate escort." Perhaps he could take the hint. Alrog was a nice looking, and seemingly a good man. Her father would approve of him, she knew that.
"It would be nice if you could visit us," Alrog said, placing his words carefully. He still didn't like the smith hall's hallmaster and the dislike was mutual.
"I hope I can," she smiled at him.
"So do I," Alrog said, his heart beating little faster.
"I'll try to speak to the Hallmaster then."
Alrog nodded.
"And I'll send Arva to you with his reply."
"She already knows my office as well as I do," Alrog chuckled.
"And she knows that you give her nice treats."
"Well, I keep them in store for Lapis, but he doesn't mind sharing.
Speaking of him, he hasn't been stealing your hairpins lately?"
"I think I am missing one or two," admitted Fieayz. "I don't know what it is with him and the shiny things."
"I don't know it either, he's done it since the day he hatched from the egg. I have a vase in my office where people can come to look for their missing items. Maybe your pins are there too."
"Perhaps they are, I should come and look some time."
"Please do. I don't lock my office door," Alrog invited.
"It would be so much nicer if you were there at the time," she suggested with a smile.
"I do spend there a lot of time, all that hidework," Alrog said with a roll of his eyes.
"Well if I can break that time up a little?"
"Your welcome to," Alrog smiled.
"Then I'll make the effort to come."
"I'll be waiting," Alrog promised. He realized he had to decide soon how to proceed with Fieyaz. Would he keep her just as a friend or would he like her to me something more. Like wife. She would make wonderful holder's wife and he enjoyed her company. And that was his problem. He liked her but nothing more. Maybe love would come later, and he knew that marriage could work well based on friendship too.
Maybe he was just a fool to wait for love.
"I'll have to send Arva first of course."
"Of course. Firelizards sure are useful creatures."
"They really are." She smiled at him, appreciating the fact that her really was nice, and a good man. More importantly, Papa would approve. The question was, how could she get him to notice her in that way?
