}: It's happening today, :{ Zack informed his rider when U'das was shaving.

**What is happening?**

}: The hatching. :{
**Then I better hurry, we need to do a trip to Far Island,** the bronzerider said and in his excitement, cut his face with the shaving knife. "Ouw!"

~*~
Zackariath buggled his greeting when they appeared from /between/ over the Far Islandian seahold. It had been U'das' childhood home and he felt a wave of nostalgia when he saw it again. It had been way too long since he last been here.

** Can you reach Almroth? G'el probably wants to see his little sister Stand,** U'das asked the bronze.

"I just hope Tiegot isn't out in the sea," U'das murmured when his bronze circled to find a landing spot. His brother-in-law was a fishcrafter after all. Zack came to the ground on the open space front of the seahold's entrance. It was barely large enough for the bronze. People peered out from windows and doors.
}: Almroth comes, :{ Zack told his rider just as a sky-blue dragon appeared from /between/ above them. }: He will wait on the air, there's no room to him to land :{, he continued. The hold was built into a cliff face above sea.

**Right, and there's Tiegot!** "Ho, Tiegot!" U'das called to the man who came out of the hold.

"Ahoy U'das! What's up?" the fishcrafter asked. He was almost seven feet tall, burly man with silvery hair and beard. He was wearing his best gather tunic and master's knots.

"Your only daughter is going to Stand today. Care to come to watch it?"

"Does watch-wher fear light? Of course I do. I haven't seen her in turns!
My duty to you, Zackariath. Is that G'el up there?"

"Yes and yes," U'das replied and grinned.

She could hardly believe it, a dragon of her own! That Sirjath was green did not bother Uetia a one bit. If anybody asked, she was the cutest creature on Pern! Although, she mused, cute perhaps wasn't the right word to use of wet, sandy hatchling, who was wolfing down the meat she fed her.
Gangly, wobbly, with wings that looked too large compared to the torso and bottomless belly.

"You think she'll finish anytime soon?" A voice asked.

Uetia swirled around. "Daddy!" she cried with joy and rushed to hug him.
Shards, she had missed him, she hadn't even realize how much until now that he was here. "What are you doing here?" she asked, suddenly moved nearly to the tears.

"I would be lousy father if I missed my daughter's impression," Tiegot snorted.

"Who is this young lady and what have you done to my baby sister?"

"G'el! You silly!" Uetia felt almost overwhelmed.

"Congratulations, greenrider Uetia!" U'das managed get out between the happy reunion.

}: More!:{ Sirjath demanded.

"Sorry, I got feed my dragon!" Uetia reluctantly pulled away from her family. But needs of her lifemate came first. _That_ lesson had been bounded to her head often enough.

}: Ravenous, isn't she :{ Almroth remarked to Zackariath.

}: All hatchlings are :{ the bronze replied.

Finally, Sirjath did stop eating and drifted to sleep.

"Aaw, Sirjath, did you have to? Couldn't you just wait until we are in weyrling barracks before falling to sleep?" she asked.

U'das, Tiegot and G'el chuckled.

With sigh, Uetia just picked out the hatchling to her arms and started to carry her. She was big enough and Sirjath was small enough for her to carry her.

"Well, isn't that a rare sight. A rider carrying her dragon. It's usually the other way around," G'el bantered lightly.

~*~
The hatching feast was in full swing. Uetia sit with her father, brother and uncle. She and G'el were comparing Impression stories, while U'das catch up with Tiegot.

"Two. Two of my children are now riders. Not many men outside the weyr can boast with that", Tiegot said, watching his children, glass of rum in his hand.

"True," U'das agreed, "it seems to run in your family."

"No, in _your_ family. It's from Uedelle they have inherited the dragonrider's blood. My side of the family has no riders at all. Just seacrafters and fishcrafters, and one odd harper."

"Whatever. In either way, you have a reason to be proud."

"I am, I am. It's just that... Please, keep my little girl safe, U'das,"
Tiegot pleaded with worried tone.

"We are in a Pass, I can't promise you anything, but I will certainly look after her," U'das promised and clasped Tiegot's shoulder. The mood was getting bit too thick with emotions, he decided, and needed lightening up.
He stood up, rising his glass to the air and yelled: "Hey everyone, let's toast to the newest greenrider in my family!"
