Description: Benna Impresses green Henerath
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 6, day 3 of Turn 4

Benna shuffled her feet in the hot sand, feeling the warmth even through the sturdy boots they'd all been supplied with. The words of last minute advice being given by the Weyrlingmaster Second washed over her almost completely unheard. It was nothing she hadn't heard before in the Candidate classes so she didn't concern herself with it.
All that mattered was the ever more intense humming and the fact that any moment now, shells would begin cracking and dragons would be hatched.

Her dragon would hatch. Benna held, almost desperately, onto the idea that her lifemate was there, in one of those eggs. She had spent every waking moment since being Searched with that conviction and she focused on it now more than ever. Any tiny, niggling doubts were shoved forcefully to the bottom of her mind. Her dragon was here, it was only a matter of time now.

Abruptly, the humming stopped and in the moment of silence, the sound of a shell cracking open seemed to echo and little bronze Foneth found his partner. Suddenly, the sands were busy and loud as eggs hatched out their precious cargo and joyous cries marked life-long matches and warbling cries sounded from dragonettes still searching.

Benna's attention was distracted, along with everyone's it seemed, when the gold egg hatched. For one brief moment, she entertained the idea that the gold was for her. But the moment passed when the dragonette chose another. She felt a small pang, but only fleeting as a sound pierced the din to reach her ears.

Distressed mewling caught her attention and she turned towards the sound, spotting a little green floundering in the sand at the edge of the hatching grounds. The moment her eyes latched onto the little green, she knew. Of course, she knew. How could she not recognize her other half?

}:My name's Henerath, Benna, and I'm stuck!:{ The words were rushed and upset and every thought in Benna's head vanished besides the need to get to Henerath's side and help her.

"Henerath!" Benna exclained softly as she headed toward the little green. **Henerath, Henerath, my own dear love. You're not stuck, you've just got to get used to standing is all.** She dropped to her knees on the hot sand, not even noticing and gently supported her lifemate as the green got her legs under her more firmly.

She smiled as the green butted her gently, nuzzling her face and showering her soul with more joy and love than she'd ever known was possible. "My own Henerath," Benna whispered, her voice full of wonder.

}:Yours forever,.:{ came the ready agreement. The perfect accord. The echoing sentiment as Benna was claimed in turn. And then the green added, }:Unless I starve, Benna. I could very well starve, I'm so hungry. Can I eat now?:{ The pitiful mewling cries that accompanied those thoughts whiped any amusement the newly matched weyrling rider might have had away. Especially since she could -feel- how hungry her newly hatched dragon was.

**Poor little one. You won't starve, I promise. There's food for you just outside.** With that she stood and urged her little green to join her in following the procession of other newly matched pairs to where the baskets of freshly cut up meat waited. After a few faltering steps, Henerath followed quickly.

}:Is there a lot? I'm very hungry,:{ Henerath asked, her voice at once sad and hopeful.

"There's plenty," she answered aloud, reaching down and touching her dragon lightly as they walked. She could scarcely belive it, though she'd maintained the conviction it would happen. Now that it had, she had to remind herself it was real. That Henerath was really real.

}:Of course I'm real,:{ the green interjected. }:I couldn't be this hungry if I wasn't real:{ And who could argue with that kind of logic?
