**Riyanth, can you ask Onnyth if hers is busy or not?**
}:Onnyth?:{ Riyanth spoke to the other gold. }:Mine wonders if yours is free, and if so, would she come to the office?:{ }:Mine says that she just needs to put her riding straps in our weyr, then she will be with you,:{ replied the young gold. There was perhaps a hint of nerves in the mind voice, bleeding over from her rider. It was one thing to bespeak the goldrider as Weyrwoman 2nd, but now she was the Weyrwoman.
}:Very good.:{ Riyanth told Onnyth. Then she spoke to her rider.
}:Onnyth's is putting straps away and then will come by.:{ While Kapera waited, she ordered some more klah and refreshments, just in case Teseada wanted any. She nibbled on a sweetroll.
"Ma'am," Tesesada knocked on the door as she announced herself. "You wanted to see me?"
"Yes. Come in, sit down, there's food and klah." Kapera invited. "I just wanted to talk about things, now that Corvera is intending to leave."
"She is?" asked Teseada as she poured herself a klah.
"She's decided to go elsewhere." Kapera said. "Which means we'll be sharing the duties, and I wanted to talk to you about that."
"We'll be getting another goldrider transferring in to replace her then," Teseada made the assumption automatically. She'd barely been a rider for a turn.
"Possibly. But that would mean another period of adjustment, and honestly, don't you think Dragonsfall has been through enough?" And another goldrider would be a rival. Teseada was naive and would be easy enough to control. "You're our home-grown gold. People should see you stepping up to lead them."
"I guess so," she said, putting her mug down and idly tracing a pattern on the table with her finger.
"I think we should be able to handle it." Kapera said, trying to boost the girl's confidence. "You've been working with the Records and weyr staff for almost a Turn now, and the only part you'll have to worry about is leading the Queen's Wing once Riyanth and I are grounded."
"Our wingthird will help with that," thought Teseada aloud. "Maybe you're right, I have to at least try."
"Exactly. She's had experience before and you can rely on her." Kapera agreed. "As for the rest, I figure we could just divide it up according to tastes. Do you prefer keeping the hides and the Records, or coordinating with Weyr staff more?" Despite enjoying company, Kapera found she preferred noting births and deaths and supply listings. Staff was more of a headache. She knew she needed to be able to handle non-rider disputes and approve new crafters and coordinate with the Headwoman, it was just annoying. Just like this job was sometimes annoying.
"I'm not too good with the hides yet," admitted Teseada. "Perhaps I should do some of them."
"There haven't been any clutches since yours, so I don't think you have practice with those. When Riyanth's clutch hatches, do you want to do those? You'd be recording sire, dam, egg total, color breakdown, who Impresses- I think you've seen them before."
"Are you sure? You don't want to do it yourself?" There was a note of surprise in Teseada's voice, she was sure that when the time came, she'd want to do all that herself, and that Onnyth would want her to.
"You mean because they're my children, in a way?" Kapera did actually want to do it, but she knew Teseada never had. "I've done my own clutch hides before. You haven't done one yet. Go ahead and do ours, it's okay."
"If you're sure that Riyanth won't mind?"
Kapera reached out. **Do you, love? Onnyth's doesn't know how yet.**
Riyanth considered. }:I like Onnyth's and little ones should learn.:{ the gold allowed. }:But you must do it next time.:{ "Riyanth thinks it's good for you to learn, but she wants me to do it next time." The goldrider laughed. Dragons were picky.
"I'd be honoured to do it then."
"Excellent. How do you feel about working with support staff? Are there any areas you like, anything you don't like?"
"I think I do okay with what I'm doing now, and the Headwoman is a great help to me." Teseada hoped that the headwoman would have said the same in her place. Tatitem had helped her avoid some embarrassing errors with figures.
"That's fortunate. She's a very competent woman." Privately, Kapera envied that level of confidence. "She's helped me too."
"Is there anything else you need from me?"
"No. I just wanted to go over what was going to happen with you before you heard about it through the grapevine." Kapera explained.
Teseada laughed lightly, gossip travelled faster than a trip /between/ in a Weyr. "I understand completely."
"You'll be getting your new knots soon, then." the Weyrwoman said.
"My Da will be so proud to see me wearing them." D'nev would have been proud if they'd been the knots of a wingrider, but Weyrwoman 2nd.... The bluerider would glow with pride.
"He should be. You deserve them."
"I hope I can live up to them."
"Onnyth wouldn't have picked you if you couldn't."
"I think I know that at last."
