Teseada

Teseada

"Sir," the class had been dismissed, but there was a question that Teseada wanted to ask. "Sir, might I ask a question about this lesson?"

"Of course you can. What's bothering you?" The weyrlingmaster's Third answered with a smile.

"I'm not sure about all this business of ettiquette. When to call a holder Sir, when to use Milord, could we go over it again?"

"If your are talking with Lord Holder, you use the Milord, minor holders are sirs. Master ranking crafters are sirs or masters."

"I see," Teseada scribbled another note on the hides she carried. "How would you address a Lady Holder?" she asked. "Are there times when you should use Ma'am, or would it always be Milady?" Having been told off in the past for causing offence to more important people than herself, she was anxious to learn how to get things right. And as a goldrider, she could end up as Weyrwoman and have to deal with these people at important occasions.
Hatchings and gathers immediately sprang to mind, but no doubt there would be others.

"Milady, just Lady or ma'am, I would use all of them depending the situation and what was about to be talked. Although, you being now in rank equal to them, you won't have to use Milady if you don't want to."

"I don't?" She was a little confused, and it showed in her face. "I'm sorry, I don't understand that."

"You're a goldrider now. At the top of the social ladder. Only Weyrwoman, Weyrleader and Lord holder are above you. And of course the weyrlingwing's staff while you're a weyrling. But that's just me and my opinion. You want reálly know how ettiquette goes, talk with Jaela. She's both Weyrwoman and Lady of blood" E'naer replied.

"I'll do that," she said. "Thank you for this Sir."

"You're welcome, goldrider" E'naer replied. "How are you and Onnyth doing otherwise?"

"She's growing. It seems that everyday there is more of her to wash than before." the last was said with feeling.

"Well, she is gold, the largest dragons on Pern are golds" E'naer replied and turned to look where the mentioned gold waited her rider. "She does look good," the weyrlingmaster's third sounded pleased.

"She lets me know if she doesn't think she looks right. There's already been a few times I had to go back and re-oil a spot to her satisfaction."

E'naer chuckled. "Particular about her looks?" he asked.

"Very! I think this is her will trying to come through."

"Possibly. Don't let her push you around too much. There are times when you have to be able to controll her and it won't succeed if she's used to ignore you and your will. So if her reguest is inconvinent, tell her. She's already old enough to wait for it" E'naer cautioned.

"Yes sir, I understand."

"Anything else in your mind?"

"Not at the moment sir, but I may have questions later."

"Anytime you have, feel free to ask. My job is to answer them," E'naer smiled.

"I'll remember that sir."
