K'reyel

K'reyel

Mai smiled to herself as she watched K'reyel moving among the guests in the dining caverns, speaking to some here and there, welcoming and congratulating the new Weyrlings, and in general, being the man she loved.

The smile broadened as she relaxed in her seat. She was at a table by herself for the moment, but she was going to be called to perform with some of the other Harpers any time now. A quick glance showed them almost set up, and a wave in her direction made her get up with a laugh. She had her own duty at the Hatching Feasts!

She generally didn't spend much time beside K'reyel at these, as they were both busy. But tonight, she would find some time. The Healers had told her today for sure.

A quick caress of his side as she passed him in the throng, and her softly shining eyes promised him the world. "Leave a little early tonight?" She asked softly, pausing to wait for his answer. Jerrmay was beckoning her over even now.

"We can leave whenever you want." For some, hatching feasts were full of joy, for others, there was always a tinge of sadness. The sadness of not impressing, or even never impressing touched some. And there were others that just wanted to make the day truly special somehow. And K'reyel knew which way he'd like to spend his evening.

Mai's smile was lit from the inside out, shining brightly. "I have a few sets to do, love, but in a candlemark? I have plans for us." She winked, then headed toward the raised dais at the front of the cavern to join the other Harpers.

She seemed to be glowing more than just the love of a good man normally gave her.

"Plans sound good, maybe I should grab us a wineskin?" he suggested.

"Or two.." She grinned, winked, and departed to sing with the other Harpers.

She had plucked K'reyel away nearly immediately following her last song. They were now settled on the couch in their weyr, no children about for the moment, and each with a glass of wine.

"Mmm...." She stretched, and curled up in his lap. "Hatchings are always such joyful occasions, love."

"They are, did you see the look on the face of the girl who impressed that little Gold?" he asked as his arms went around her.

"I did, and it was beautiful. The only time that I sometimes regret not Impressing." She paused and raised her glass to him. "But... I imagine my face will look that too, in oh, about 4 months or so."
She paused, looking at him, very eager to see his reaction.

"You mean?" He studied her face. "You're having a baby?"

"No, my love." She said softly, touching her fingers to his lips. "WE are having a baby... I will need your help, I know."

"You have it, and more," he promised as he looked into her eyes. "I love you."

Mai glowed under that simple declaration and leaned forward to kiss him. "I love you, too, K'reyel." Leaning her head on his shoulder, she said, almost smugly, "I think it was after Vilarth's flight, as we suspected. I'm just over 2 months..." She smiled again, taking his hand to rest on her stomach.

"Then we have her to thank for this."

"In the meantime, I have other ideas." She smiled at him, and winked.
"I'm sure you know much more than I do about ... other ideas... while I am pregnant." The words distracted her, again, even from her most wonderful weyrmate.

"Oh K'reyel! I'm pregnant! At last!" And the smile returned in full force.
