F'lik stared off into space next to Denala as she chatted happily with a few of her friends. Part of him was still in shock, not quite believing that he'd finally achieved his life-long dream. The other part of him felt ultimately satisfied. Seeing a flash of familiar blond, his eyes focused on Karri standing across the room. Excusing himself from the girls, he hurried over to her before anyone else could claim her attention.

"Karri," he said, in a somewhat breathless voice, smiling hesistantly.

She had just finished feeding her beautiful green Elliath, and with her fast asleep, she didn't quite know what to do know. She smiled warmly up at Felarik, so very glad that he had impressed as well. "Hi Felarik, well I guess you're not Felarik anymore are you? Um, what should I call you now?"

"F'lik. I decided on it a long time ago, when I decided this was what I wanted to do. I thought about F'larik, but I like the sound of a one syllable name."
He paused. "This is pretty unreal, isn't it?"

Karri surveyed the scene around her and sighed with pleasure, she had never really expected to impress and the fact that she had, especially with all the wonderful friends she had made, made this just about the best day she had ever had. "Yes it is," she sighed happily, "and I like F'lik, it suits you."

"Thanks." He wasn't sure what to do next. He knew that everything would change now that they each had a young dragon to care for, but he found it difficult to resist the feelings that always tried to take over when he was near her. Since he didn't know when they would next have a moment alone together, he decided to bring this up.

"Karri..." he paused, still not sure exactly how to explain what he was thinking.

Kamira ran up to the group, face all aglow. "I know I'm interrupting but I don't care! We're dragonriders now!" Sheer pleasure radiated from her.

"You're not interupting!" Karri said happily as she gave her friend a hug. "Did you finally get yours full?"

F'lik smiled half-heartedly at Kamira. He'd been hoping to talk to Karri for a little longer, but perhaps it would be better this way.

"Yes, the little glutton." Kamira sighed. "How about yours? Are they finally sleeping?"

Padorath is out," F'lik replied. "It's almost like it never happened, but then, if I concentrate, I can feel his mind..." he trailed off, searching his mind.
Coming back to himself, he said, "I'm sorry. I think I might be off in space for the next few weeks. I never really could have prepared myself for this."

"Elliath is asleep too. She told me that she was full but I was not, so let her sleep and I should get full too!" Karri laughed as she remembered how sure her beautiful green had sounded and how quickly after that she was curled up in a ball oblivious to the world. F'lik smiled softly. He enjoyed seeing Karri smile. He gazed at her, forgetting that they were not alone, wishing her could kiss her as he hadn't yet had the opportunity or the guts to do.

Kamira didn't miss the look F'lik had in his eyes; she wasn't going to say aynthing... but she couldn't pass it up either. "So, I guess that's the end of our romantic escapades for a while, isn't it?"

Distracted by the activites around them, Karri missed F'lik's look, but didn't miss Kamira's comment. "Oh you!" she teased her friend, "You won't have time for any romantic escapades!"

"Yeah," F'lik agreed, in a flat voice, "none of us will have time for much of anything, will we?"

"No..." Kamira sighed a little. "But tonight is for celebrating! So cheer up!"

"Exactly!" Karri beamed as she grabbed both her friends hands and started pulling them towards the noise, "so let's go, or else I'll miss my very first hatching feast!"

F'lik allowed himself to be dragged, not much interested in the crowd of people waiting to congratulate them all, but heartened by the thought that perhaps he could get a dance at least before the night was over.
