Raising his hand to knock on the door to Ciara's weyr, he hesitated slightly. She might not want company, and by all accounts her daughter was very sick. But he continued, calling out softly. "Ciara, it's me, K'sedel."
When she finally opened the door, he found himself looking at a pale reflection of the vibrant woman he knew. Her expression was as wan as the sad smile she offered him, there were dark circles under her eyes and the lines of anxious fear seemed to be permanently fixed on her brow. She was exhausted, both physically and mentally.
Ciara opened the door further, allowing him to step inside. She had just gotten out of a hot bath she'd taken in order to try and ease away the stiffness in her muscles - but it didn't really help much. Tightening the sash of her robe, she glanced briefly over at the sofa, and thought of R'yin. Shards...she didn't know what to think. And she had to meet him in half a candlemark or so...
Shards.
She looked at her Weyrleader. "You've heard then?" It was obvious he had. Why else would he come to her so early?
"Yes," he said simply. "How is she?"
Rubbing her fingers against her temples, Ciara looked away. "Her fever went down a little last night before we left the Infirmary...but not enough. We're going to go check on her in a bit..." Her gray eyes met his and she bit her lower lip, not trusting herself to say anything more.
"Do you want me to come with you?" he offered, wanting to help, but not knowing how.
She didn't know what she wanted. But she did know that she didn't want to be alone...and with R'yin there... "Please?" she asked in a whisper.
He took a step closer, holding out his arms to her. Somehow, he could sense that she needed to be held, needed to draw comfort from another.
And she moved into his arms, resting her head on his chest, trying to shove her confusion away. She closed her eyes. She would sort through her feelings later. Her hands moved, her fingers tightening on his tunic.
"It'll be okay, Abrei is the best healer we have," he murmured comfortingly as he held her close. "Cirina will be just fine."
"I...I know..." But there was that bit of dread there. It wouldn't leave her be...
