Trealeina looked around the crowded dining cavern for a place to sit. Finally she spotted a table that everyone was getting up to leave, so she headed in that direction. She noticed someone else had the same idea she had. She recognized him as one of the guys that was in her Weyrling classes.
If she remembered correctly, he had also impressed a green.
She had seen him in class but as usual, her nose was in her studies and she paid little attention to the others around her.
He arrived at the table first, so she walked around so she could sit across from him.
"Hi" Trealeina said "Do you mind if I sit here?" she said smiling warmly, still holding her tray and cup.
"Sure." He smiled as he glanced up. "I'm more than happy to have a bit of company."
"I'm Trealeina, you are M'yex, right?" she said as she set down her tray and cup "That's me." He gave her one of his dimpled smiles. He absently brushed a long strand of soft wheat gold hair from his eyes.
**Nice smile** she thought to herself returning her best smile.
"How are you doing with your meat chopping?" she asked.
"Mine is much better now that I have had a little more practice with bigger chunks. Chopping meat for a couple of Firelizards is much different than chopping meat for a dragon. But I don't think Tamineth minds, she scarfes it so quickly. I have to keep reminding her to slow down. Half the time I fear she will choke" Trealeina said chuckling at the thought as she pushed her long braid back over her shoulder.
"I don't mind it. Though I have to cut it into perfect little bites. Enyth prefers hers to be dainty." He chuckled. "She eats it quickly but since they are smaller I don't fear her choking as bad."
"Were you born here? or were you searched?" she asked between bites. "if you don't mind me asking" she added readying her spoon for another bite. She blushed a little as a drop of cereal had escaped her spoon and started to dribble down her lip.
"I don't mind. I was searched outside the weyr. But, I find it an interesting place. It's filled with so many colorful people."
He smiled as he offered her a napkin.
"Oh, thanks." she said wiping her mouth, she smiled through a deeper blush. "Yes indeed it is. It was a little un-nerving for me at first, but I like it here. so many things to do, to learn, so many different people" she pushed her braid back over her shoulder.
"And then comes that perfect little draconic being that completes a life you didn't know needed to be completed." He smiled again. Thinking of Enyth always made him happy.
"Yeah, I know what you mean" she said smiling as she thought about her impression. "have you thought about any specialized studying? I mean, I have always liked healing injured animals.
When I got here I thought only to learn more about dragonhealing."
"Oh, I was studying in the tailor craft. I like to embroider things. See?" He handed her a small scrap of fabric. It was his lucky piece. He had always kept it on him. It had a embroidered flower on it with his initial.
Trealeina wiped her hands before accepting the fabric to get a better look. "Oooohh, that is very pretty" she said feeling the fabric and observing the stitches. Trealeina smiled and passed it back to him.
"My Mother has tried for years to teach me how to do things like that, but I can never seem to get past the basic sewing stitches." Trealeina told him with a twinkle in her eye and let out a mock sigh, "to her dismay I was better with animals and the gardens than I was with a needle and thread." She smiled as she finished up her cereal and took a drink from her cup.
"Well, those are good things to be good with. There are far to many people in this world that believe men and women should have certian skills and should stick with only those skills. My parents wanted me to be more... mannly. But, saddly they got me as I am." He smiled as he finished his own breakfast.
"Yeah, that was one of the things I liked about the weyr the most. People are accepted and encouraged to improve on what they are good at, no matter if you are male or female. I would never have been able to study healing at home. My Mother would have forbidden it." Trealeina roller her eyes, "it is not proper for a young lady. ppphhhww, one should be able to do what they are good at. No matter what it is."
M'yex smiled as he stood with his now empty tray. "And on that note we had better get ourselves to class. So we can continue to learn and improve at something we are meant to be good at."
"Agreed, onward we go" she said with a chuckle.
