Happy to Have a Bath and Some Company

Description: Karri and Kamira have a rather serious talk about their lives post-hatching.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 8, day 3 of Turn 3

Kamira eagerly sank into the bathing pool with a great sigh of relief and relaxation. It had probbly been two days since she was last able to soak herself for any decent length of time.
**Finally.** She closed her eyes and let the warmth sink into her bones.

"Kamira?" Karri said quietly so as not to startle her friend. "Do you mind some company?"

"Only if I have to chop up more meat than I've ever seen in my entire life to feed you!" She giggled. "How have you been since Impression? I haven't really seen much of you - or anyone."

She slid into the water next to Kamira and was grateful again that there were no male occupants. She didn't seem to mind the older riders as much for some reason, but she still didn't feel comfortable bathing when the male weyrlings were around. "Oh, same as you probably, tired and sore but happier than I've ever been!" "Yea..." Kamira agreed half heartedly. "If I wasn't so tired all the time, maybe."

"I know what you mean," Karri said with a smile, "I don't think I've slept this little since Mother had my sister Nanja!"

"And I suppose this is better than mucking out stalls at the stables as an apprentice..." She was just as tired as she would have been mucking, but at least she smelled better.

Karri murmered her agreement and started on the task of washing away several layers of dirt, grime, blood, oil, and who knows what else that she had accumulated since her last bath. She hissed slightly as scratches were opened by the sweetsand as she scrubbed, but she knew she would feel better for it in the end. "Karri..." Kamira didn't quite know how to begin.
"Were you...?" She sighed, the words just wouldn't -
_couldn't_ - come out.

"What?" she asked, stopping her attentions on her leg.

"Where you dissapointed that you didn't Impress the gold?" There. She had said it.

That was a question she hadn't been expecting. After a moments thought and a quick check to make sure Elliath was still sound asleep she replied, " Well, yes and no. I mean, I think it's the dream of every little girl to someday ride a _gold_, and they are beautiful. But I love Elliath so much, I wouldn't trade her for a gold now if I had a choice."

Kamira nodded thoughtfully and sighed. "Ok, good. I wanted to be sure it wasn't just me. I'm happy now, with Tayanth, but in the moments before I impressed, I was dissapointed." She felt better having finally said something out loud to someone.

"No, it wasn't just you." Karri said with a smile, "I'm sure all the girls that impressed greens had that first hope of gold. In fact," she added with a giggle, "I heard tell that Kavlyn had his eyes on the gold egg as well!" Kamira laughed full heartedly - she felt much better now, now that she knew she hadn't betrayed her life partner. "We're going to have a sharding hard few months ahead of us, aren't we?" "Definetly" she agreed, "but it will all be worth it!"

"Indeed." Kamira sighed and sunk a little lower into the pool. "I've never been so happy to be warm in my life..."

Karri nodded her agreement and started to finish her scrubbing. To be able to bathe in a warm bath was certainly a nice perk she never got at her home hold. Just as she settled in to enjoy the soak she heard a sleepy voice in her mind. }: Karri? Where are you? :{
** I'm bathing beautiful. ** She focused an image in her mind of her and Kamira in the water for Elliath.

}: I miss you. :{ came her steady reply. It wasn't needy or demanding, just a statement, and Karri sent loving thoughts to her strong lifemate. ** I'll be there soon. **

"Elliath is awake, I'd better get going." she said before she gave herself one last dunk to slick her blond hair back.

"Best of luck - I'll catch up with you sooner or later..." Tayanth probably wouldn't be far behind Elliath on her feeding schedule... But, at any rate, the soak had been rather plesant. "And Karri?"

"Yes?" she replied as she got out of the water and quickly covered herself up.

"Thanks."
