"How old is your daughter?" The greenrider asked the bluerider as she saw him watching the children playing by the lake. She had seen him with a young girl who looked to be around eight or nine.
He looked up and considered whether he would answer.
He'd seen this greenrider before. He didn't remember personally speaking to her, but that wasn't unusual.
"She's 9 turns."
"What's her name?" She pressed gently, though Ciara was simply trying to make conversation. She watched her own daughter, being looked after by the elder children under the watchful eye of her foster mother.
"Werenn." In his lap was a tunic he had been mending while he sat idly by. His daughter was engrossed in the treasures she was finding by the lake so he had no desire to distract her.
"She's lovely. I can certainly see the family resemblance." Ciara watched her own daughter, sitting upon a blanket, her foster mother bringing her shells to bang together. "Do you have any other children?"
"Not that I'm aware of." He shrugged. Of course, living in a Weyr, with flights, one never knew really.
"Thank you." E'rae had accepted Weyrlife as well as any holder really could.
Ciara regarded the bluerider for a moment. He didn't seem to be very willing to talk. "I'm Ciara, by the way." She finally said, and offered him her hand. "E'rae," he supplied and wiped his hand off on his pants before he took hers for a moment. "Weyrleader's Wing."
"Ah, my step-son's wing." Ciara stated with amusement.
There was so little difference in age between her and K'reyel, it was funny to think of him that way. "Well met, E'rae."
He released her hand. "Stepson?" he queried. He didn't often hear the term at the Weyr since not many ever married there. Of course, he understood why.
"Well, not really. It's a personal joke." Ciara stated, her lips quirking upward. "His father is my weyrmate."
"Ahh..." E'rae nodded easily, comprehension dawning now. "Aye our Wingsecond." The bluerider was thinking silently, however, how many more turns K'sedel had than the woman standing before him.
"Yes, well, I suppose I should be off." Ciara turned her gaze back to her daughter, the foster mother clapping her hands and the child mimicing her. She sighed softly. "It was nice meeting you, E'rae."
"You as well Ciara." He doubted he would have another conversation with her, but one never knew. Picking up the tunic, he went back to his mending.
