Characters: Dysali, B'vin, D'cal
Description: B'vin and D'cal find a new owner for the canine in Dysali
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 1 of Turn 4

So why do I have to come?" B'vin asked as he and D'cal walked down
the corridor with the canine and headed towards Dysali's weyr.

"Because this is _your_ canine, not mine." And D'cal was not going to
take responsibility in case the deal went sour!

"But she's _your_ friend." B'vin countered, "Whatever, we're almost
there anyways." B'vin had been hoping D'cal would just take care of
things when he'd told him Dysali had been interested in the pup. B'vin
didn't really _dislike_ Dysali though, the few times they'd chatted at
the dining tables and so forth she had been rather nice, so if D'cal
really wanted him to go he figured it wasn't a big deal.

Dysali paced back and forth, trying once again to explain to Lillyth
what a canine was and how she should not eat it. The green was
snuffling a little, and snorting her displeasure at having to share
_her_ rider with any other creature.

Shards! It made Dysali glad she'd never Impressed a flit. Not that
she'd ever tried, and certainly not after Lillyth.

}:Of course not! I am much better than a silly fire lizard:{

Faranth! She was a gold in a green's hide, Dysali was sure.

**You cannot eat this thing, Lillyth. And it won't take _that_ much
time! He's already bigger than most newly hatched canines. You won't
even know he's here, you'll see!** She'd already learned to say
'hatched'. Lillyth did not understand anything else very well.

At least, D'cal had said he was already half trained, and big.
Clenching and unclenching her fists nervously, she waited. How did
you take care of a canine? She'd have to ask I'lan for help, for
sure.

Still, it was for D'cal's friend, B'vin, whom she wasn't sure she knew
well or liked, but he couldn't be all bad since D'cal liked him so
much.

She looked up at the door, thinking they should be here any time. She
couldn't _hear_ a wild canine in the hallway, but one never knew.

B'vin gave a rapp at her door as he readjusted the bag that contained
the pup. "We could just leave him at her door." he half-joked to
D'cal, "that way she can't really refuse him".

"Oh, aren't you just soooooo funny," D'cal said with a smile that told
the greenrider he wasn't fooling anyone. He knocked on the door before
B'vin could change his mind and bolt.

Dysali jumped a little, receiving a snort from Lillyth in response.
"Come on in!" She called, anxiously watching the door for her first
sign of her new 'pet'.

The bluerider opened the door and indicated B'vin should enter first.
He didn't want to chance walking in and the greenrider bolting.

"Um, Hi Dysali." B'vin said awkwardly as he walked in, "D'cal said you
wanted the canine, so here it is." He held out the bag he kept the
wiggling creature in.

Eyes wide, she stared at the bag. "I said I _might_ want it, B'vin.
Lillyth has been saying she'll eat it. I want her to like it too.
Errrmm... can you let it out? And it is an 'it' or a he or a she? Do
you know?" She sidled around toward the door, thinking they may just
leave the canine and run. But if Lillyth wouldn't have it, she
wouldn't either. Lillyth came first.

}:Of course I do!:{ The green was very curious. }:Bring it out
here. I want to see it.:{

"Oh! Lillyth wants us to go out to her ledge... come on guys.. and the
.. baby?"

B'vin bent down and undid the laces of the bag, letting the canine
escape. It dashed out, and after doing a few laps between all their
legs, bolted for the weyr ledge. "You don't think it'll fall off the
edge do you?" he asked D'cal since the bluerider had been letting it
run around his weyr.

"No, canines aren't _that_ dumb." The bluerider hoped...

"I hope he's not dumb. I like him.. " She watched him run around on
the ledge, and watched Lillyth sniff and snort at him. He didn't
seem afraid of the green dragon. She was small for a green, but she
must be huge to the little canine.

He seemed so friendly and happy. Perhaps a pet would help D'ren.. and
her....

**Do you like him?**

}:He is very furry. But I think I will not mind if he stays here. :{

Dysali laughed at her dragon, who was watching the canine harder than
any of the humans. "Lillyth likes him, B'vin. Does he have a name
or anything? Will he get very big?"

B'vin relaxed a bit, if the dragon liked it, she'd probably take it.
"No name, the holder just handed it to me so I don't know much about
it. Said something about being a good breed, or best of the breed or
something." the greenrider shrugged, he'd been in too much shock at
being handed the thing to ask any questions.

"I've heard something about how you can tell how big a puppy will grow
to be by looking at their feet, but I really don't know if that's
true," the bluerider added most unhelpfully.

Dysali nodded, peering from the canine back to the two riders. "I
think we'll keep him, B'vin, not matter how big he'll get. Do you
have any food or anything, D'cal? I know you were watching him! Oh..
what does he _eat_?"

}:Perhaps fish? I like fish.. :{

"If you go to the beastcrafters they can help you. They collect what
the dragons leave over and make it into pet food," D'cal replied.

"Well, if you want him, then I'll just get out of your way so you can
have some time with him and all that." B'vin said as he backed towards
the door. Better to leave now before the mutt started to chew on
things or drool and she changed her mind.

Dysali looked away from the canine and nodded to B'vin. The man
really was not all that pleasant. She smiled at them both. "He's
mine, B'vin! Thank you very much. And you too, D'cal. I think he'll
be a good addition to our family." She didn't say that she hoped he'd
cheer D'ren up too...
