Briata

Briata

Briata was outside to greet the visitors as they drew near to the hold. Land stretched before them, a rolling hill of grazing land set beneath the gaze of a small, black mountain, the namesake of the Hold.
Briata lifted her hand and waved to them when they were close enough to see. When they came to a stop, she drew closer, smiling. "Welcome to Onyx Peak!"

"Thank you, Briata. I hope all is well here," Alfida replied her and reined her runner. Alrog mimiced her gesture and flashed a smile to her. His mother had insisted on visiting her friend, and since Alrog couldn't let her travel alone, he had to company her.

"Everything is wonderful. Please, come inside, she's eager to see you." Briata's gaze met Alrog's and she gave him a smile in return.

They dismounted, handed the reins to the stablehand and followed her in. "Is she allright, how did the delivery go?" Alfida asked eagerly.

"Well, it was a long one, but everything went fine." Briata moved inside and led them through the hallways. Bridina is beautiful, just beautiful!"

"Bridina, that's a lovely name," Alrog remarked.

"I think so too." Briata stated by way of agreement.

She continued to lead them through the hold until finally she came to a stop before her parent's quarters. She gently tapped upon the door, then opened it when she heard the soft call from within. Her smile brightened as she saw Wenina within, sitting in a rocking chair, baby cradled in her arms. "You have visitors."

Wenina's face brightened when she saw who had arrived. "Alfida! I'm glad you came!"

"I have to come to see your new baby. Congratulations," Alfida said and went greet her friend. Alrog hung to the background.

"I'm going to show Alrog around." Briata announced as she noticed the young man's discomfort. She turned, making her way out of the room and motioning for him to follow.

"Thanks Briata," Alrog said quietly and followed her out. Their talk had already turned to the actual birth and all the gory details he really didn't want to hear about.

"Such things aren't usually the sort of thing that men particularly like to be a part of." Briata stated with a soft giggle. "Are you hungry? We could get something for you to eat if you like."

"Thanks and I could use some klah too. It was long and rather cold ride here," Alrog said.

"Of course." Briata led Alrog to the dining hall and motioned for him to sit in a chair. "Breakfast already ended a while ago, but would some bread and cheese do until lunch?"

"That will do fine, thank you. What it is with women and babies? I have to admit that as much I love my sister and her baby is cute, untill she starts to bawl, I rather not hear how her bowel works,"
Alrog replied and complained good-naturedly.

Briata giggled at the description. "Perhaps its our mothering instincts. I've heard that men don't really understand until they have children of our own. Give me a moment, I'll be right back." The girl turned and made her way into the kitchens. She returned a few minutes later with a plate that held a hunk of bread, cheese, and a knife. In her other hand, she carried a mug of steaming klah. Briata set the plate and mug before Alrog, then slipped into a seat beside him.

"Thanks. Perhaps you're right," Alrog replied. He cut cheese and put in over the bread. He took a generous bite. "Good cheese. Hold's own making?"

"Oh yes, from ovine milk, though we do make some from bovine milk."
Briata looked around the dining area, "If you like, I can show you around after you've finished eating."

"I would love a tour," Alrog replied and warmed his hands around the mug.

Briata waited patiently as Alrog finished his bread and cheese. Once he was done, she stood. "Would you like another mug of klah? You're welcome to bring it with you."

"Sure," Alrog said and held out his mug for refill. "I sure can't wait till the summer."

"Tired of the cold?" Briata stated, then motioned for him to wait. She made her way back to the kitchens but returned quickly. "The winter isn't so bad."

"Yes. You would think that since I was born here, I would be used to the winters," Alrog said chuckled.

"I like all the seasons." Briata admitted as she handed him the freshly filled mug. "I like watching the change that comes with them.
Would you like to take a tour now?"

"Yes, please," Alrog replied politely and stood up.
