Briata

Briata

"Hello." The young man was smiling when he found himself coming out of the kitchens at the Hold and face-to-face with the very person he had hopped to meet up with.

"Ah, I was wondering where you had gone off to." Briata flashed the dragonrider a bright smile. "I don't recall anyone putting up a flag."

"I had something to drop off, actually," T'vanen said, his face alight with amusement. First he had had to buy the fresh fish, then had had to make up a story to pass it off to the cook as a gift from some Seahold. It was ridiculous, but it made a good excuse to visit the hold and the holder's daughter.

"Oh really?" Briata didn't quite believe him. "And what were you dropping off?"

"Fish. Want to smell my hands for proof?" He held his perfectly clean hands up in front of her face, waving then around and laughing.

"That's what that smell is. I've been smelling it for a good quarter mark or so." Briata swatted playfully at the bronzerider's hands. "So is delivering fish the only reason for your visit?"

"Oh, yes. What other reason would there be?" he asked innocently.

"I'm sure you could come up with plenty of reasons." Briata eased past the bronzerider then motioned for him to follow. "Well, I suppose since you're here I should at least offer you a bit of food and drink to tide you over until dinner time."

"My dinner's a long time away," he agreed. "So if you would feed me I'd be very grateful."

"I'm sure we can arrange something. Perhaps a crust of bread and a swallow of water." The young woman's eyes twinkled and her mouth quirked up in amusement. "Surely that will keep you satisfied, hm?"

"And your company ... I could manage on that."

"My company?" A sidelong look grazed over the bronzerider. "And why, tell me, would you care for my company? You hardly know me."

"Something I hope to rectify," he returned with a smile.

"Is that so?" What a cocky bronzerider. Briata supposed that was par for the course. "What makes you so certain you want to get to know me?"

"I'm not certain. I'll be more certain the more I know. Don't all friendships start out on a whim?"

"I guess you have a point." Briata stated with a soft rumble. "Though I suppose our friendship would be over before it started if I don't get you anything to eat."

"Well," his smile was wide, "Not over ... completely. But endangered, perhaps."

"You might have Qwarith flame me to a crisp no doubt." Briata's voice almost tittered with amusement.

T'vanen sighed with assumed gusto. "I'm afraid my boy is the model of well-behaved dragonhood. No flaming holder's daughters for him."

"I shall have to count myself lucky." Briata stopped before a door, but only to open it. "Come on, let's get something in that stomach of yours before you faint from hunger."

"After you, Briata," he said, indicating she should precede him into the room.

Briata nodded her thanks and moved into the kitchen, bronzerider in tow. She wondered what he was up to - she had a feeling she would find out.
