Cinale

Cinale

Daigoro was trying to forget how very silly he must of looked walking back to the Hall through the snow, hunched over like an old man and wearing that silly looking hat. And Cinale was there! That made it even worse. The cook had brought him back to this room, helped him onto his bed and run off to fetch the healer. How embarrassing. Why did that have to happen in front of _Cinale_?

"I'm back, hon," the cook called as she rushed into the room, followed by a rather tired-looking healer. "And I brought Talrian."

"I'd follow her anywhere for a couple of baked goods," Talrian said with a tired smile, setting the bag he'd brought with him down on a chair.
"But I'm pleased it was to such a fine patient. I hear you took a tumble, Daigoro."

"Well, no, not a _tumble_ Talrian," Daigoro corrected. "I slipped on some ice, and... to protect Cinale from injury I fell straight back onto my rear-end."

"Well, I hate to see you injured..." Talrian winked at Cinale as he pulled a chair over next to the bed. "But I'm certainly glad you saved our cook! I've only been here a little while, but I can already tell the place would fall apart without her!"

Cinale grinned and Talrian. "I've told you before, I have the weight of the Hall on my shoulders. Now, can I stay here, or do I need to leave the two men alone?"

Daigoro had frowned slightly when he saw Talrian's little exchange with Cinale. Since when had _they_ become to friendly? But that look changed embarrassment at her question. "Well, Talrian, the injury does seem to be in a rather... personal area... well, that is to say..."

Talrian hid a smile as he sorted through his bag. "Cinale... here. If you could make a tea with this packet of herbs, it might do a little something to ease some of our Hallsecond's pain." And protect the man's obviously tattered dignity, though there was no reason to point _that_
out!

"I'll get on it," she told him, taking the herbs from him. "Come get me when it's safe for me to come back in, would you, Talrian?"

"Of course. It shouldn't take too long, I promise." Talrian waited until she'd left before turning to Daigoro. "So. You... slipped?"

"Yes," Daigoro replied defensively. "Cinale seemed to fall right into me, and when I tried to plant my feet to steady us both they slipped right out from under me. I fell straigh back, and she landed right on top of me. And I could feel a pain right on my rear end." Talrian nodded. "Likely a bruised tailbone. Painful as can be, but rarely _too_ serious, luckily enough." Daigoro grimmaced. "It sure felt serious! I couldn't even stand up straight. Is that normal?" "Perfectly," Talrian reassured him. "But I'll take a look just in case.
I doubt you've broken anything, but it would be irresponsible not to make sure." The Hallsecond felt a bit reassured to hear that nothing was broken.
"What do you need me to do? We'd better hurry before Cinale comes back.
No one boils water faster than that woman, I swear."

The examiniation was quick and mostly painless, though Talrian could tell it wasn't doing much for Daigoro's pride. Still, the healer managed to get Daigoro back into his clothing and resting in reasonable comfort without Cinale bursting in. "You're fine, Hallsecond, though sitting won't be comfortable for a sevenday or two. I can do something about the discomfort, but I'd advise you to take it easy. Anything I give you that really takes care of the pain is going to make it hard for you to get any work done." "Well, do I _have_ to take pain medicine? I mean, it's sore now, but nothing I can't handle." And it would seriously shoot his pride if he had to tell Fielton he couldn't work for a few days because he slipped on the ice when Cinale tried to tackle him while playing in the snow...

"Of course not," Talrian reassured him quickly. "In fact, I'd _prefer_
that you didn't, but I want to make it clear that the option is open if it gets to be too much. It might help to take something in the evenings before you go to sleep. Rest is the best thing for you right now." "Shards," Daigoro mumbled as he crossed his arms and tried desperately not to pout. He was feeling unmanly enough as it was!

Talrian didn't seem impressed. "Sit still for a moment while I find Cinale and your tea." He smiled at the Hallsecond before ducking out the door, returning quickly enough to make it clear that Cinale had, indeed, boiled water with impressive speed.

She entered, carefully bearing his hot mug of herbal tea. "How are you, hon?" she asked Daigoro, moving to his side, her expression still concerned. The worry in her eyes make the brewer feel just a little smug, though he wascareful to mask it behind a look of pain. He grunted out, "It's...
bearable."

She patted his hand gently, a contrite look spreading across her face. _She_ had caused this! "Drink your tea then. Be careful though - it's quite hot..."

Talrian cleared his throat, trying to keep from laughing. Someone was enjoying being pampered! "Yes, well, Daigoro... if the pain gets _too_
bad, remember what I said. If I think that you're lying about how much pain you're in, I'll go to the Hallmaster myself and request that you take a few days off." "I can't afford to take time off, Talrian. The Hallmaster needs me right now." Cinale's eyes looked so pitying, so caring. Shards, why hadn't he done this before! "But I will remember what you said. And I will take it easy. Cinale," he said, turning his gaze to meet the cook's eyes, "I think I shouldn't move more than is completely necessary. I might need someone to bring me my meals."

"Of course, hon. Anything you need. I might even let you _nag_ me,"
she grinned. It was the least she could do for him after all.

Things were going well so far.... Maybe he could push it just a little more... "I don't want to be too much of a burden to you, Cinale, but do you think you could bring me dinner? When you come home?"

"Why would you think that that would be a burden for me, hmm? I've brought you dinner before, Daigoro," she smiled, then frowned a little when she realized that he was just _holding_ his tea, not drinking it.
"Drink your tea."
