"We were just playing." Neabin's tone took on a slight whine as he spoke to his mother. "We didn't mean to hurt anything."

"It was an accident, the ball flew to wrong direction," Corofel said. He rolled his eyes to Neabin's whiny tone.

"You were playing way too close to the hold," Corowal pointed out sternly.

"Far too close," Vanea agreed. Her eyes remained on her son, though she was aware of the Lord Holder's son nearby. "You know better than to take such a chance."

Her son hung his head, not saying anything more.

"I've told you, take your ballgames to the fields out side the hold. Do you have any idea how much it cost to have a new glass for that window?" Corowal asked.

Corofel just shook his head mutely.

Vanea turned to the Lord Holder. "Lord Corowal, I think that the boys should do odd jobs around the Hold to earn the marks to repair the window."

"That is an excellent idea, Vanea. They are old enough to take responsibility for their action. They need to learn think father ahead than their noses," The Lord holder said. "Starting from the kitchens? And the beasthold should have also lot of work to be done."

Corofel groaned.

The Headwoman nodded. "The window will be quite expensive to repair and will require several jobs for payment."

"For a month," Corowal decided.

Again Vanea nodded. The period of time seemed extreme to her, but she would defer to the Lord Holder on this and – at least in the beginning – the more disagreeable the jobs assigned, the better.

"Dismissed," Corowal told the boys rather curtly.

Vanea watched Neabin walk away, his head hanging in shame, before turning to Corowal. "Thank you, Lord Holder. I'll see to it that my son stays out of trouble from now on."

"Well, with boys of that age, it's easier said than done," Corowal said and smiled a bit.

"In that case, I'll do what I can." Vanea knew that boys would be boys but she did not intend to allow her son to fall into habits of misbehavior.

"That's for the future to tell," Corowal murmured.
