Teseada

Teseada

"Thanks for coming up here," Teseada said with a smile for her friend.
"Onnyth is dying to show off today for some reason."

Karri grinned as she surveyed the array of eggs before her. "Maybe she
knows he time in the spotlight is almost over."

"Nearly, or at least this time it is." The eggs seemed to have hardened
nicely, an indication that the life within was ready to emerge. "And then we
can get back to normal stuff."

"Good day Onnyth," Karri remembered to give the queen a proper greeting,
"You are looking very lovely today." she added with a wink to Teseada.

"Her ego is big enough already without any inflation," Teseada grinned
though to show she wasn't serious. "Mind you, with those beauties on the
sands..."

The greenrider scrutinized the eggs like she'd done every time she'd come to
the hatching grounds. "And don't forget, you'll have three bronzes out of
that clutch."

"I hope so, but whatever happens I'll be proud of her. just so long as those
new weyrlings do her proud."

"Yeah yeah" Karri said with a grin, "But if we don't get 3 bronzes I'll lose
all my marks in the pool and I'll be broke."

"Karri!" Teseada waggled a finger in mock anger at her friend. "Didn't you
lose marks on guessing the number of eggs?"

The greenrider shrugged, a bit embarrassed, "Well yes. But that's why I bet
on the three bronzes, so that I can make the marks back. They had such good
odds..."

"It wasn't G'jan again was it? I swear that bluerider gets more persuasive
as he gets older. He'd be richer than a Lord Holder if he didn't lose it
all again on runner racing."

She nodded hesitantly, "And T'har the greenrider. They have a whole board
and everything all set up."

"Don't tell me, they've even persuaded one of the Harpers to hold the pot as
well."

Karri was again hesitant, feeling like she was being duped but not sure how.
"Well, I don't really know, I didn't ask what they were doing with the
money... only that if we'd won, we'd be paid out within the day."

"Lets just hope that Onnyth proves you right then." Teseada made a mental
note to track down the blue and greenrider after the hatching. She had
nothing against gambling, just so long as the game was honest and this
might not be.

"I bet she will." Karri said quickly, "And we've got quite a few good
candidates that would make excellent bronzeriders someday."

"I know, I could see Guprend as a bronzerider, or Ewander."

She nodded, though personally she wouldn't be surprised if Ewander turned
out to surprise himself with blue. "Guprend certainly, he's already got
such a group of friends on his heels you'd think he was putting a whole wing
together!"

"Otella would make a great greenrider, don't you think?"

The girl had been standing since her and Teseada had (and probably longer).
She was weyrbred, so dragonrider was in her blood, but you just never
knew... "Oh sure she would, It'll happen one of these times. Did you know
she's moved in with N'thal, the bluerider from the hatching before ours?"

"Well unless N'thal can change her mind, I bet she'll still be out there."

"Oh I'm sure she'll still be out there, she was in the refresher class just
a few days ago. I'm just happy for her is all." Karri explained, the girl
had seemed all glowey when she'd talked about N'thal. She wondered if
_she'd_ ever be like that when she spoke about a guy.

"One day, there'll be nice guys out there for us."
