K'reyel

K'reyel

K'reyel knew that Mai would be still at the healers with Mayel needing a
checkup when he got back to their weyr after he'd finished with those
infernal hides. But even so he wasn't going to let it spoil his surprise,
after all there had to be some perks to go with the rank of Weyrleader.

And for once he'd used them, asking the kitchens to prepare a special
meal and have it sent up so that it would be waiting for them. All he
had to do was set out the silverware, and make sure he was waiting...

The Healers visit had gone on quite long enough, and Mai was tired.
Mayel was fussing a bit now, but finally, the last Healer poked him
for the last time, and left the two of them alone. With a gentle
sigh, she blew on his face, tickling his eyelashes until he settled
down.

Her answering smile was all maternal. She had settled into the role
easily, and so smoothly. And what was better - it was _K'reyel's_
son! She was proud to have given him a son.

Mayel settled into his carry wrap, and she made her way home to the
weyr she shared with K'reyel. She was late enough that dinner would
also be late, though he did not usually get home before her these
days. Walking slowly, she hummed softly and eventually, Mayel closed his
eyes and slept for the walk home.

When she walked into the Weyr, she didn't suspect a thing. Erdenth
had not been on the ledge, so she had assumed - as usual - that
K'reyel was not home yet.

But.. something was different...

There was already food on the table! She paused, waiting for the
confusion to pass. The smile spread warmly across her lips as she saw
her weyrmate standing proudly near the extremely delicious looking
dinner. Waiting for her.

"K'reyel...." Her voice was soft, warm with happiness.

"I wanted to do something special for you, for us," he began. "You
deserve a treat." He smiled at her, the smile reserved just for her
and their son.

Her cheeks warmed with pleasure and her eyes lit from within. "Oh,
love. Thank you. You did not have to do anything for me." She moved
toward him, kissing his lips softly as she shifted Mayel out of the
way a bit. "Let me just put him to bed, hmm? I'll be right back."

"I'm waiting," he said, watching her. Somehow, no matter how many
times he saw her it was always as striking as the first time to him.
and that she had chosen him over all the others she could have had. It
meant so much to him, and he needed to show her.

Mai was so surprised by this outpouring of warmth from her weyrmate
that she couldn't speak. He was always loving, but this was above
and beyond, even for him. She lay Mayel gently down, and closed her
eyes briefly as she hummed a soft song to put their son further into
sleep.

Why did he love her so much? She was no one special.. just a Harper.
But oh, how she loved him. The very heart in her chest beat around
his smile, his life. The smile came then, and she stepped back out
to slip into K'reyel's arms, twining hers around his waist. "I'm
back."

His arms went around her, bringing her close to him. "I know, and this
evening is all ours."

"Oh K'reyel.." She said quietly. "I don't deserve you." She grinned
fiercely against his chest then. "But I'm not giving you up ..
ever... so thats too bad." And she reached toward him, aching
suddenly for a kiss. A kiss that burned from the tip of her head to
her toes. Only his kiss had ever done that to her, and she relished
every one.

There was a look in her eyes he couldn't mistake, an invitation he was going
to accept. The Weyrleader kisssed his weyrmate, taking his time about it.
She stretched up, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulled him closer,
arching her body against his with a sudden hunger that surprised her. It
had been so long... so long... she ached for him in a way that made her
remember the first time. "I've missed you so much, my love... "

"I've missed you too," he murmured, looking into her eyes again. "And now we
have all the time we need for me to show you, if you want me to."

She leaned back to look into her weyrmate's eyes, enjoying the moment
in silence. Desire was visible in K'reyel's eyes and the way he held
her. But the healers thought they should wait...

Sharding healers. She wanted her weyrmate in her bed again.
"Can we skip dinner?" Her voice was husky with her own long repressed
passion for him. "I don't want to wait..."

"Me neither, you're more important right now."

Mai's laugh was warm and full of possessive pride. "I was thinking
you'd say you can't keep your hands off me long enough to eat...
hmmm?" She pressed closer to him, encouraging his hands to wander and
to either carry her to bed already, or toss her down right on the
couch.

"Dinner can wait, you and I can't."

She really didn't want to waste any more time talking, so she drug _him_ to
the bedroom, while dinner sat untouched on the table. She had a brief pang
of sorrow that they were ignoring all his hard work, but, some things were
more important than a romantic dinner.
