"Morning sleepyhead." Karri called as she poked her head through the
goldrider's door. She'd knocked twice but Teseada hadn't answered, and
Elliath had told her that Onnyth told her that she was by herself sleeping.
"Who's there?" called out Teseada a little warily. She wasn't sure she
wanted company just yet.
"It's me!" Karri laughed, she should have brought klah with her. "Can I
come in? I promise not to laugh at your bedhead."
"Okay," answered Teseada relaxing a little. She got out of bed and pulled a
robe over her that she had left lying on a chair next to her bed.
The greenrider slid in and sat down on the couch. "You must have had a late night. Too bad I missed the party... but I guess somebody has to console those candidates that don't Impress. Did I miss anything fun?"
Fun was one way to describe it at least. "Y'nub," she said simply.
"Tunnelsnake." Karri snarled. She never even tried to hide her dislike for the man.
"Indeed. I could so do without him." Teseada walked over to an alcove near
her bed and pulled out a jug and a couple of mugs. "Juice?" she asked as she poured some out.
"Sure, thanks." she replied and accepted the mug gratefully, she'd talked
herself hoarse the night before with the candidates. "Anything else
interesting? I just got to pop in long enough to congratulate all the new
weyrlings."
"Well..." Her half brother was news enough, but she wasn't sure she wanted
that to be common knowledge just yet. "My Da was proud of me," she settled
for saying.
"As he should be." Karri agreed then burst into a big grin as she was
reminded of the three bronzes from the clutch. "You know that bet I made on the hatching... well, with the three bronzes that hatched, I made out, BIG!"
"You did? Well done!"
Karri squealed at the remembered delight, "I know! Fourteen marks can you
believe it!"
"You're rich! What are you going to do with them all?"
She'd finally gotten to the whole point of her dropping in. "Well, I want
to spend them of course! I've never had so many marks in my entire life. I heard this morning that there is a gather at Shadow Cove, that's in Dolphin Cove territory. They're a port for a bunch of Northern ships, so there's bound to be loads of stuff there that you wouldn't normally find in the stalls here. And I heard that they have a pair of giant felines there that are pure white as the snow on display! Will you come with me? Please, it'll be so much fun."
"Really, white felines?" That could be fun, and it might be what she
needed, time away from the Weyr and everything here.
"And they're the biggest ones you've ever seen!" She didn't want to go
alone, and Teseada was her best friend.
"Maybe I can sneak away for a candlemark or three."
Karri squealed with delight, "Great! Well, I've got to check on your new
weyrlings so I'll see you tomorrow!"
"Maybe they'll have some new styles of dresses for turns end? That'll be
worth spending time and money on."
"Dresses and cloaks, and boots, and all the Northern fashions I bet." The
greenrider skipped to the door but before she left she turned back. "If
you've got time today, stop by. Those dragonets are so cute when they're
first hatched!"
"Maybe." It was a non-committal type of answer.
"Maybe" Karri mimicked in a tease. "Or you could just go back to bed." she added with a wink.
"No, no, I'm awake now."
"Then you have no excuse!" the greenrider said with a giggle before closing the door behind her.
"I'll see how it goes with the hidework," called the goldrider as the door
closed.
