Ciara

It was hard to see her like that. In a very short time, K'sedel had really come to care for Ciara, and to see her so worried... She shouldn't be alone, and he wasn't going to let her go back to her own weyr.

"I'll be fine, K'sedel...really," Ciara was saying, her tired eyes fixed on her boots as they walked slowly down the hall. Her protests were half-hearted though. A part of her wanted to just be alone, to try to sort out her thoughts about Cirina, and about R'yin. But another part of her, a bigger part, wanted company. That part of her wanted to be held and soothed and caressed. That part of her needed it.

"You aren't fine," he said stating the obvious. "I just don't think you should be alone right now."

Too bloody tired to argue with him, Ciara just nodded and leaned against him a little as they walked, needing the contact.

"Come back to my weyr," he said. "At least eat something with me." He realised that she might not take care of herself, and that was not the best thing for Cirina now. When that little girl made it through this, and she wold get through it, she'd need her mother.

She wasn't hungry at all, but the greenrider nodded anyway. "Okay," she whispered.

"Good," he said firmly. As they walked back to his weyr, he signalled a passing drudge and asked her to bring a light supper for two to his weyr.
"It's not going to be anything heavy. Just some rolls and cheeses, and some fruit. You need to eat for Cirina's sake."

**For her,** she thought as he opened the door to his weyr. They both went in and Ciara smiled a little, remembering the last time she had been here.

"Now you sit down, and let me get you a drink." He directed her to his couch, and uncorked a wineskin, "Just a small drink."

"I remember I lost the bet to you that one time," she murmured as she took the wine glass from him. When she looked up at him, there was a small, genuine smile on her face. Tasting the wines with him had been so fun that day. Had it been last month?

"It'll relax you a little," he said. "Not too much, but enough to let you get some rest."

Taking a sip, she moved over for him to sit next to her.

Which he did, reaching out an arm to hold her close. The gesture was intended to provide comfort and warmth, nothing more.

Ciara curled closer to him, nestling her head against his chest before closing her eyes. She let herself just concentrate on him, forgetting everything else for now.

"It'll be all right," he said softly, stroking her hair. "It'll be all right, you rest now."

Rest...shards. She was exhausted. Putting the glass of wine down on the table in front of them, she shifted so she could curl her legs up on the sofa, one arm slowly reaching around to lightly rest across his waist. She hoped she'd be able to rest. And maybe she would, if he kept on stroking her hair like that.

Sensing she was relaxing a little, he shifted position so that both of them could be more comfortable. "Close your eyes if you want, I'll wake you when the food gets here."

She nodded, nestling further in against him. Maybe she was getting a little hungry after all...but she was just so tired... Ciara sighed, letting his soothing caresses lull her.

"Don't worry. Don't you worry," he said.

The healers had told her the same thing. And yet, how could she not worry? Cirina was her little girl. Her joy. She murmured his name softly.

"Ciara, she'll get through this. Abrei will make sure of it."

She wouldn't let herself think otherwise.
