Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 10 of Turn 4
"Hello, Wingleader. Have a seat," N'vanik said as K'hetah stepped into his office. He was trying to make an effort to use titles more often.
"Weyrleader," K'hetah said with a nod, settling into his usual chair.
"I have some ideas I'd like to run by you, and maybe have your Wing try out a few different formations in drills." N'vanik slid a formation chart across the desk.
The other bronzerider reached for the chart and took it into his hands, glancing at it. "What's the aim of the changes?"
"Doing more with less. I want to make sure every rider is in the best position for them, and for the wing. I'm blurring some of the traditional placements, putting larger browns where bronzes would usually be, putting the faster blues with the greens." N'vanik pointed out some of his odd notations on the chart.
"Leaving the slower blues and smaller browns ... where?" K'hetah was always interested in alternate formations but very few of them made up for lack of wings aloft.
"Here, towards the middle and back." N'vanik tapped the chart. "And a few of the larger, steadier greens can move in with some of the blues."
"We can always try it to see how it works in the air," K'hetah said amiably.
"Exactly. It's a trial. My Wing is trying this out next sevenday in drills, and I'd like you to try this at least a few times. Let me know what works, or doesn't work," N'vanik said.
"I can do that." K'hetah nodded and rolled the chart, fishing out a piece of twine from his pocket and securing the paper to prevent it unrolling. "You're not planning on using it on day fifteen?"
"No. I need more time to be sure it'll work, and to work out any kinks." After all it wasn't just a different formation, but a different style of formation.
"All right, then. Anything else?"
"No, that's it." N'vanik leaned back in his chair.
The Cyclone Wingleader got to his feet and nodded an acknowledgement in the other man's direction. I'll let you know what I think in a sevenday, then."
"Thanks."
