Dear ...

I am unsure what to call you. I am sure you do not believe that I could possibly be whom I believe I am. I have no way of proving this. when I was born my mother died. I was given to holders, Erinit and Lilin. They raised me as thier own with no knowledge of anything else. I was made to believe that Holder Valmar was my uncle and sent to live with him when I turned twelve. They wanted me to be a lady but I was treated as more of a drudge than family. Just as I was about to run away. Anything had to be better than being treated like that.

I was just getting ready to leave when I overheard my uncle and aunt. They were fighting about me. They said that I was a child that they didn't want my real father to know of. That he didn't deserve to know. That I was defective. That he had to find someway to use me because he didn't think I could be married off. I could tell he did not love me. He spoke of Valema and of her death. Of how he knew my true father had never cared. He hoped to undermine him in some way.

He also spoke of Holder Erinit. The holder whom had raised me wanted to tell. He was tired of hiding Holder Valmar's secret. Valmar had someone burn the house down around my family. I tried to reach them but was to late. I've cried my tears for them and left. I joined a trader's caravan for awhile and learned what I could. When I could learn no more with them I struck out on my own. I looked for clues and they led me here. I don't ask that you believe me or take me in. I merely wish to know the truth. My entire life I hae lived a lie. I have lived ot knowing who I was. I know my grandfather Valmar will never admit to who I am. i'm not even sure if it is all true. I'm nineteen turns old. I have no family. He killed them, to silence them.
The woman that birthed me never lived to know me. And the man that sired me never was given the chance to know me. I merely wish to know if you are he. I have writen this leter long before I found the first bit of rumor or information so I don't eve know who you are or what you may think. I hope this helps you understand my plite. If you still don't believe, then I will slowly slip away again with no hard feelings and never darken your door again.

Erilite.

She waited quietly while he read it. Her shoulders were stiff and her face was a mask of indifference. She was hiding her emotions well. She watched his every move and every twitch.

"Your spelling is terrible," was only thing Corowal said. He studied the girls face in silence for a long moment. She just might be... "Look, this is a sensitive issue, let's not rush into anything. You are welcome to stay here at the hold, while I do some digging of my own. I admit there is the possibility that I might be your father." The letter had touched him.

She picked up her slate again and wrote an new message.

^I will remain. I apologize for the suddenness of this. I will be patient. I warn you though Valmar will not cooperate. He will be angry.^ Corowal snorted. "What can he do? I'm a Lord Holder. Do you have a place to stay?"

^I have been camping near the hold.^ She was unsure of just what Valmar would say. He would be livid that she had learned of his secret and gone in search of her father. He would say that 'Erilite is lying. The girl has delusions of importance.' He would say she was looking for attention. This was going to be interesting she could tell. Well, if things didn't go well she would just melt back into the wilderness and disappear. Perhaps it would be better for everyone that way.

"A brave girl you are," Corowal remarked. "Let's get you a room here in the hold, more comfortable that way," he continued and ringed for the staff.

Erilite waited. She watched as someone entered. She would stay for as long as she felt welcome. Though this would be interesting.
