Lenala stretched her leg out carefully in front of her, smiling up at M'galec. "Thank you for coming to check up on me... though I suppose Abrei was glad enough not to have to do it herself." She was glad she'd been wearing one of her nice robes when M'galec had stopped by... it gave her a chance to make a better impression on him than she probably had the first time they'd met.
"Well, I have to admit, I volunteered," M'galec said with a smile as he gently pulled aside her beautifully embroidered robe. "I thought it only right since you were my patient.
"I'm glad you did," Lenala replied, wincing as she caught sight of the injury on her leg. It was amazing how much more difficult she was finding looking at Threadscore on her own body--she didn't _like_ seeing other people injured, but her own injuries made her feel slightly queasy and lightheaded.
He noticed her discomfort and said, "If it make you uneasy you don't have to look you know. But truly, there is nothing to be afraid of here. It will heal. See these pink patches? They may be difficult to look at now, but that is new skin growing in. That is a good sign, Lenala."
Lenala chose to look somewhere else. "I'm afraid I'm not so good with injuries... other people's are bad enough, but I must not be very tough. I don't want to disgrace myself by fainting, after all."
"It's all right, Lenala," he said as he patted her hand gently. "Thankfully, not everyone needs to be intimately acquainted with injuries such as this.
Your discomfort is natural, and I think it shows that you have a very tender heart that is still not damaged by the realities of the Weyr. If that's not too bold to say."
"It's very sweet to say," she replied, looking up at him with a shy smile.
It was almost a pity she hadn't been making a habit of tumbling every man she came across into her bed lately... he might not be the most handsome of the bronzeriders in the Weyr, but Lenala thought he might be one of the nicer ones. Maybe as nice as Ar'lis. The bronzerider decided he liked her smile, very much. Lenala seemed to be a true lady, and they were rare in the Weyrs. He cleared his throat. "Well, now, I think it is ready to have a bit of oil applied to it. It will keep the wound from scaring too much." He took from his pocket a small bottle, put a dab on his finger, and gently worked it into the scar tissue.
She would have laughed herself breathless if she could have heard his thoughts--it certainly would have been the first time anyone had accused her of being a true lady! As it was, she was left watching his face as he carefully smoothed the oil over her skin. "You'd best be careful... you're going to spoil me! I'll want you in here every day if you're not careful.
Faranth knows I get enough knots in my shoulders that could use some skilled fingers!" The bronzerider chuckled as he glanced up at her. "Well, I am a healer, Lenala. I was trained in massage. It's just not my specialty."
She grinned down at him. "Then it's a pity you're such a busy man, answering to J'an _and_ Abrei!" "Oh, I find moments here and there to relax," he said with an uncharacteristic wink.
Oh, he _was_ fun. "Well, then. Maybe you'll have to come and relax with me some evening!"
"I think I would like that," M'galec said without hesitation, though usually he didn't fall into pleasantries with patients so fast.
Lenala smiled and lowered her voice. "Just don't tell Abrei... I don't think our Weyrhealer is too terribly fond of me."
"Oh, now I doubt that!"
"You'd be surprised," Lenala replied, a hint of annoyance in her voice. "Oh, well... I suppose we can't _all_ be brilliant." "Yes," he sighed dramatically, "there are so few of us. But you make up for it in other ways, I'm sure."
He was still kneeling in front of her, so it was easy to pick her good leg up and nudge him in the shoulder teasingly with her foot. It was a carefully calculated move that caused her robe to slip a carefully calculated distance. "I'm so glad you think I have _something_ to offer." M'galec was a bit surprised at her boldness, and even more surprised she was showing it towards him. She was a gorgeous goldrider, and he was only an average bronze. He didn't worry about the bit of skin exposed so gracefully in front of him. After all, he could look at it with all the care and attention of a healer. His ego, though, couldn't help but feel a bit of a boost. "Your good company is offering enough, Lenala."
"In that case, I'm happy to offer it." Her tone was more relaxed, and she settled back against the couch with a smile that was more friendly than flirtatious. M'galec had passed her first test easily enough--he might appreciate her body, but he wasn't there because of it. Or if he was, he was willing to pretend otherwise... and that was good enough for her.
