Description: Sarban presents his ideas to Corowal for approval.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 13, day 6 of Turn 4
Heading to his usual meeting with the Lord Holder, Sarban carried along the sketches that Panyin had made. He was anxious to show them to Corowal and get his opinion so he could meet again with Panyin and get the new tapestry started. When he arrived, he nodded to the guard on duty and knocked once.
"Enter!" Corowal called. "Sarban, right on time," he greeted approvingly when he saw who entered.
Sarban nodded and took his usual place. "Good afternoon cousin. Before we begin, I have something to talk to you about." He brought up his binder and picked out the hides he wanted. "We talked about doing something special for Turn's End and I thought a new tapestry to replace one of the old ones that needs repairing might be good. So I met with Panyin and.."
He took out the drawings and offered them to Corowal to look over. "These are some of the ideas we thought of." They were different copies of two drawings, each colored differently. One was a scene of the famous falls the Hold was named after. The other depicted various holders in stages of work. A drudge was washing linens; a farmer was planting seeds; a beastcrafter was tending a runner; and in the middle was a likeness of Corowal himself.
"Tapestry," Corowal said thoughtfully. "Let me see, cousin," he said when he took the drawings. He studied them in silence for a moment. "I like them both. What's the size for it?"
"We were thinking the usual size, about a dragonlength wide and a half dragonlength high." Sarban could adjust the size however.
"Hhmm," Corowal tried to picture them in his mind, hanging from the wall. "How about if we commission them both? This one," he pointed to the drawing of the Falls, "in full size for the Dining hall and the other one, in smaller size for elsewhere."
"If you wish it, we could do that. However, I think Panyin will only be able to finish one in time for the holiday." The steward waited to see which one Corowal would think should be finished first.
"Let's have the dining hall done first. It's the most urgent one," Corowal said.
"Aye sir, I'll let Panyin know as soon as I can." Sarban settled back down then, ready to go on with the rest of the meeting.
"Well, let's move to the next thing, which is the budget. We need to look at our expenses more carefully. We have been spreading marks around too freely..."
