She Is Beautiful

Characters: Shandara, Ivane
Description: Shandara meets Ivane and her green.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 13, day 6 of Turn 4

Shandara watched the weyrlings whistfully. She had wanted to impress but
hadn't. It was fustrating. She had escaped form home so she wouldn't
have to marry and settle into a life of wifehood. She wanted to be a
dragonrider. She smiled as she watched a green pair. "She is
beautiful." She said as the pair came into earshot.

"Thank you." Ivane paused at the girl who spoke to her and smiled. "I
think so to." She let one hand glide over the green neck and the
dragon crooned softly. "You...were at the last hatching. I remember
you." Ivane hadn't spent any time in the barracks, but she had seen
the girl in the candidate classes. "I'm sorry, I don't remember your
name."

"Shandara. You can call me Shan. And yes I was at the hatching but was
not lucky enough to find my lifemate." She smiled at the green. "Hello
young one."

"Shan. I'm Ivane." The dragon crooned in echo of her rider's greating
and arched her neck to turn her head and get a better look at the
visitor. "She says hello too."

"She really is a beauty. I like the shade of green." She admired the green. "Do you think she would allow me to touch her?" She asked hopefully.

"Certainly!" Ivane beamed, patting her dragon upon her shoulder in encouragement. "She loves to be touched, especially around her eyeridges and knobs."

Shandara did as instructed and found it pleasing. "I can't wait to find my little lifemate."

"You're standing at the next hatching, aren't you?" Ivane queried, eyebrows raising. "Perhaps you'll find her there."

"I hope so." She glanced up. "What was it like? When she looked at you and you knew she was for you. What did it feel like?"

"It's...it's so hard to put into words." The greenrider struggled for a moment, "It's as if you suddenly realise that you've only been half a person, but just as you realise, the half that was missing was so suddenly and completely filled you wonder how you were able to survive so many turns without it."

Shan smiled whistfully. "I've always know that there was something missing in my life. Something I was born to do or be good at. I'm hoping I find it out on the sands."

"Well, I hope you find it." Ivane gave Shan an encouraging smile. "I was fortunate to impress the first time, but I've heard that some people have to try many times before they impress, so don't give up."

"I don't plan too. This is where I belong." She smiled. She did not plan to go back to her home hold and wait for her parents to decide on who to marry her off to. She wanted something more than just to be a wife and mother.

"Good for you." Ivane scritched her dragon for a moment, then straightened. "Well, someone has just proclaimed that she is hungry so I guess we'd best be off. Good luck to you Shandara."

"Thank you. And if you ever need a hand just find me. I would be willing to help you." She smied as she watched the pair walk away.
