U'das knocked the door frame and peaked his bald head inside the
Headwoman's office. "Hi, Sol. I heard you wanted to see me?" he greeted and asked. He offered the Headwoman a familiar grin. They were both from Far Island Weyr and old acquaintances. Actually, it had been U'das who had thought of Solieira, back when he had been the Weyrleader and the weyr had needed a new Headwoman.
"You're always a sight for sore eyes, U'das. How are you and Zack
doing, then?" She smiled at him, that same answering grin. As long as they'd known each other, it surprised her that they didn't spend more time together, and in her aging turns, she wanted all her friends closer than ever.
"We're doing well, Zack's been cleared to watchduties and light
transport-duties. It's almost like we are back being weyrlings again" U'das replied and entered the office properly. He collapsed into a chair.
"Well that must make you feel young.." She smiled at him again. "Going to start chasing young greenriders again any day now, are you?" She teased, then went on. "We've come a long way, haven't we?"
"Yes, we have. And those greenriders are just waiting for us to come and get them" U'das grinned rather licentiously. "Or, I could start chasing _you_."
"Rogue!" but she grinned. "You know, bronzerider, I'm quite chaseable despite getting on in turns." Laughing her rich laugh, she winked at him. "If you decide you want to chase me, let me know. In the meantime, let me tell you why I asked you over, hmm?"
She stood up and went to a carisak leaning near the door to the small storage room she had in her office. When she returned, she took out a small box and offered it to him. "I traded for this box of fishing lures a few days ago and since I have no use for it, I thought I'd give it to you and Zack and see if I could talk the pair of you into going fishing for me... A favor for a favor? And if you're really good, I'll share what _you_ catch with _you_!"
"Thank you!" the bronzerider's eyes lit up. "You do know how I love
fishing, so you don't have to talk me into anything." He examined the box's content. "They look like good quality. Should bring big fishes for you" he sounded approving. He closed the box and looked at Sol with certain longing. "And no one could cook them like Selja did. Sometimes I wondered if she ever got sick and tired of fish."
Sol smiled fondly in memory. "I know, U'das, I know." A faint pause as she remembered Selja too. "I'm certain she got tired of fish, but not cooking them for you." The smile returned. "I hope I didn't cause you pain? I will cook them for you, if you like. I know a few things about cooking." She grinned at him. "Just a few mind you."
"No, you don't cause me pain. I will always miss her. We were together so long. And I eat anything you cook" U'das answered with a shake of his head. He gave her a roquish grin: "I eat anything, as my daughter keeps pointing out." He patted his stomach, which, during his absence from fighting wings, had grown a bit. He wasn't quite as slim as he had been as a young man.
"You look quite the handsome fisherman to me, U'das." Solieira grinned and went on in an outrageous tone. "Besides, I like my men a little on the meaty side. More to hold onto!" She teased.
U'das roared with laughter.
Sol grinned, pleased with herself for getting him to laugh like that, and determined to cook him some of the best fish ever. "Thank you for visiting, U'das. I find things get a little lonely here sometimes, and I'm glad to see friends. Now, go find us some fish, and I'll make it worth your while." She promised.
"Yes ma'am" U'das said obidiently and saluted with a grin.
