"Mama," Teseada hadn't used that since she was small, but right now it
seemed right. "What are we going to do about this. Da lied to me and to you. He should have told us both long ago about them."
Tesia spooned some fresh stew into a bowl and set it before her daughter.
Food always made thing easier to handle. "He should have, yes."
"Thank you," said Teseada as the food was put in front of her. "Doesn't it
bother you at all?"
"Of course it bothers me." Tesia huffed as she filled a bowl for herself
and sat down across from her daughter. "I love your father, and it hurts me very much that he never told me."
"So what do we do now? I think Da expects us to go on as normal. And that
poor boy who impressed, what must he be feeling?"
Tesia huffed at that, "Your father knows well and good that things aren't
_normal_. I sort of got upset... and threw a pie at him."
Despite herself, Teseada had to laugh. "Did it hit?"
"No." she replied, disappointment evident in her face. "Pies really don't
carry much distance in them."
"Shame, he might have finally got the point that lying to us wasn't the way
to go. Not to mention what it's doing to that poor weyrling, he looked so,
so shaken when he found out."
Tesia looked at her daughter with interest, "I haven't met the boy. I'm
sure it must be hard on him with him being here all by himself."
"I don't know whether I should talk to him or not. I can't help feeling
that he'd rather be taken /between/ than speak to me."
"He may." Tesia acknowledged with a nod, "Then again, he may not. I
suppose it depends on how much it bothers him, and how much of the blame he
puts on us over your father."
"Do you think I should try?"
Tesia shrugged and blew on her spoonfull of stew before taking a bite. Once she had swallowed, she said, "It's really up to you. It might be nice, but you are certainly under no obligation to do so."
"Would it bother you?" she asked her mother. "I don't want to upset you."
She smiled at the concern from her daughter, "I didn't try and throw a pie
at _him_. It wouldn't bother me in the least, it's no more his fault his
father is an arse than it is yours."
"Maybe I should speak to the Weyrlingmaster, see if there would be an
appropriate time. Dropping in unannounced might not do any good."
"Whatever you feel is best. Now eat your stew before it gets cold." She
reminded the girl, she was getting too thin away from home.
"Yes Mama," she said dipping her spoon into the food in front of her.
