Description: M'yex and Kamalia discuss weyrlinghood, fighting wings, and parents.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 19 of Turn 4
Kamalia strolled down to the lake, her little green beside her. They
had a bit of time before the afternoon class, and Alaudath had wanted
to play in the sand. As soon as they arrived, she kicked her feet in
it and hit it with her tail, every once and awhile making happy
grunting noises. Kamalia sat down nearby, but not close enough to get
sand in her eyes, to watch the greens antics. Her gaze was soon drawn
by a large (at least compared with Alaudath) green who had just come
out of the water near them. She was a light shade of green with hints
of blue. Kamalia couldn't imagine her lifemate growing to be that
size, even though she was growing every day.
Enyth gently stretched out her wings. M'yex smiled as he used a towel
to gently dry the green. Once that was done he watched as she rolled
over to allow him to tend to her underside. She reminded him of an
oversized flit when she did that.
}:We are watched mine. She has a young one. Please tell her Alaudath
is very pretty.:{ Enyth seemed to enjoy complimenting all dragons.
He shook his head and looked over at the girl. He smiled a sweet
smile. "My Enyth says hello and asks that I compliment your lovely
Alaudath."
Kamalia grinned. Alaudath being complimented was even better than
someone complimenting herself. **Did you hear that?**
}:Yes. I am pretty!:{ The small green ran over to get a better look
at the dragon and rider who had been nice. }:Enyth is green like me.
She is very big though:{ she said, getting close to the other green
and craning her neck up.
"Alaudath, of course, agrees with Enyth. I'm Kamalia," she said. She
had seen him several times, but they had never formally met.
"I'm M'yex. It is a pleasure to meet you Both." He sat next to her on
the ground.
Enyth lowered her sleek green head and nuzzled the small green. }:And
you young one will some day be just as big.:{ She stretched out on the
ground to soak up heat and watched the little green's antics.
If dragons could giggle, Alaudath would have at the attention.
Instead, she noticed Enyth's tail and began jumping over the very tip
of it.
"You're going to be put in a wing soon, right?" Kamalia asked.
"Yes, soon." He smiled at the greens. They seemed to get along well.
"Not sure how I feel about it though. Enyth is confident though. She
always is."
"Do you think you're ready? I mean, did drills and everything prepare
you?" Flying in a wing was something Kamalia hadn't given much
thought to since Impression, but in a matter of months, it would
become a large part of her life.
"I'm prepared. I'm just afraid a bit. Fighting thread can be slightly
unnerving. But, I have Enyth and she is very confident. She believes
we are ready and will be alright." He smiled reassuring at her. It was
healthy to admit you were afraid.
}: We will fly well. And so will Alaudath and Kamalia.:{ M'yex smiled
as he listened to his green.
"Enyth thinks you will do fine. So, don't be worried."
Kamalia smiled. She knew nothing as of yet about fighting Thread, but
it was nice to have the assurance of a dragon that everything would go
well. "So," she said, looking over to him, "anything specific I
should look out for as a weyrling? Anything you wish you had known?"
M'yex was the perfect person to ask, because while older riders didn't
remember all the specifics of weyrlinghood, he was still going through
it.
M'yex tilted his head and thought for a moment. "The first few months
will seem rather hectic. And you have to really watch what you think
about around them. Dragonettes seem to take in everything and ask a
lot of questions. Enyth is rather polite for a dragon and usually asks
her questions as nice as possible for a dragon. Most dragonettes
aren't so polite about questions. They just want to know. It can be
rather frustrating at times to explain something to them. There are a
lot of things they are not ready to know about at a young age." He
looked over to his green. "Also be ready to be sore every once in a
while. You definitely get a work out with them."
"Alaudath definitely asks questions all the time." Luckily she was
still occupied playing in the sand and with Enyth's tail. "She isn't
impolite, but it does get a bit tiring to have to constantly explain
things to her." At M'yex's last comment she nodded. "We haven't done
much yet, but I know it'll get a lot harder."
"Oh, and you wil have a heck of a time explaining your feelings to
her. Enyth asked so many questions on why I turned red when I thought
of some of the guys around here. I'm still coming to grips with the
fact that I can like guys." He chuckled as he remembered the first
conversation he had with her on it.
"That you're capable of liking guys, or that it's ok to?" Kamalia
asked. One of the aspects of weyrlife that fascinated her was men
liking men. It was so, different.
"It being okay. I wasn't allowed to be me back home. At least not the
me that I didn't realize I was. I knew I was different but didn't
realize how different till Enyth came along." He smiled.
"Oh," Kamalia replied, not sure what else to say. She had a bit of a
fascination for male greenriders, because homosexuality was still so
foreign to her. The idea of men liking, or loving, other men was
different from what she had grown up with, when it was never even
mentioned. "Were your parents at the Hatching? Do they know?..."
"They were there. They were not quite sure what to think but it. They
are proud of me. They just know the rumors of greenriders and that
makes them worry." He smiled. "But, they know that I am happy so that
is all that matters."
"Well, that's good." She didn't know what her parents would do if her
brother Impressed a green. However, unless he was hiding something
from her, that was not very likely. "Have you been able to go visit
them since the Hatching?" She wasn't sure exactly when weyrlings were
allowed to /between/ on their own, or if M'yex was would visit even if
he could.
"No I haven't. I admit I've been a bit nervous. I've been thinking of
waiting till Enyth and I are assigned to a wing. I want them to see me
as a full rider." he smiled. He really hadn't thought of what they
would say when he and his green visited them.
"I'm sure they'll be proud of you. How can't they be? Especially
when they see Enyth, now that she's full-grown."
"I'm sure they will. She is quite beautiful." He smiled as he looked
at his green.
Kamalia grinned. "They'll definitely agree with you."
