Just for Practice...

Writers: Eimi, Paula
Date Posted: 3rd November 2005

Characters: Nyblek, Dawyn
Description: Nyblek gets a little idea from a chat with his brother-in-law
Location: Smith Hall (NPC)
Date: month 9, day 3 of Turn 3

"Who is your favorite uncle, little man? Huh? Who is your favorite uncle?" Nyblek bounced the giggling toddler on his lap, making faces and blowing spurts of air into his hair. He looked up as the door opened.

Coming home from work, Dawyn was surprised to find Nyblek there instead of his wife. "Nyblek? Why are you here? Where's Keles?" "She had some errands she needed to get done and I offered to stay with Kelwyn," the apprentice grinned as the little boy bounced himself up and down.

Dawyn felt a sudden stab of jealousy, seeing how _his_ baby seemed to like being with Nyblek. So, his voice was more sour than he meant it to be: "She could had waited until I come home." In truth, he rarely spent time with the baby. Caring Kelwyn was Keles' job. Nyblek's smile faded a bit as he looked up into Dawyn's stern face. "Well, I think she was hoping to be back before you come home." His tone was a bit defensive as he looked away from the journeyman and back at his happy-faced nephew.

Dawyn made a nondescript grunt and flopped down to sofa. He was going to take the matter up with his wife, no need to involve Nyblek in it. "So, how's your studies going? Better than mine I hope." Dawyn asked to cut the uneasy silence. "All right, I guess," Nyblek said, glad to have a change in subject. "I still can't seem to get the bracelet I'm working on to turn out right, though. And I'm lost in chemistry."

"Can't help you with bracelet, I was lousy with the jewelry. The chemistry was fun though" Dawyn answered and chuckled at his memories.
"We blew up the chemistry lab once. Didn't make the Master's laugh, but it was sharding handsome explosion!"

Nyblek snorted. "I don't suppose you could teach _me_ how to blow up the lab could you? It might get me out of my test next sevenday."

"I could borrow my old notes" Dawyn suggested. "To blow up the lab or to pass the test," the apprentice asked he set the squirming toddler down. Apparently his favorite uncle wasn't his favorite toy when he was talking.

"You could probably find instructions to both from them" Dawyn answered with a laugh. A glint came into the apprentices eye. "Do you think Master Mycom has changed his tests in the past few turns?"

"I can't see how. The laws of the nature don't change and there only few ways you can ask about sulphur acid's chemical compounds." "Yeah, but do you think that he has changed his tests? Like the questions on his tests?" If Nyblek could get some of the old tests and they were the same... "Can I borrow all your tests?"

"I don't know. Sure you can borrow them, if they not been thrown away"
Dawyn answered. "That would save my life." Nyblek grinned, hoping that he had finally found a solution to his chemistry woes...

"I'll look for them" Dawyn promised and got up, moving to the chest he kept all his old stuff he hadn't gotten rid off. He started to rummage thru it. " Metallurgy, nope, let's see... physics, hmm, gem cutting, naah, ah here they are!" He pulled out a pile of papers and notebook. "Really?" This was perfect! Not only would he have someone's notes to look at, but maybe there were some tests he could use.... just for practice of course...

"Of course" Dawyn winked. "You can keep them, I don't need them anymore."
