Description: K'sedel and Ciara discuss their daughter's upcoming birthing day
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 13, day 4 of Turn 4
"She's got a birthing day approaching," commented K'sedel as he watched
his sleeping daughter. "I can't believe she's going to be two."
"It goes by way too fast." Ciara agreed softly as she reached down to
stroke Radela's cheek. "It doesn't seem like it's been almost two
turns."
"That's often the way."
"That's _always_ the way." Ciara's words were punctuated with a soft
sigh and she moved away to let her daughter sleep without her
hovering. Children _did_ grow up too fast. So often she heard parents say
they wished
their children would get older so they could get out of a certain stage. Not
Ciara. She enjoyed her children, wished they could have stayed little
longer. Why did it have to go so quickly? "We should do something to
celebrate."
"She does have a Pernwide celebration though, and last year she probably
thpught it was all for her, and she probably will again." It wass hard
to miss the fact that Radela was born on the first day of the Turn, when
most people were celebrating.
"True, but I was thinking something more personal." The greenrider
laughed softly, "Though don't ask me what, for I haven't any idea. I guess I
just wanted to do something specifically for her."
"Maybe we can get the kitchens to organise a cake?"
"That would be nice." Would they be so overwhelmed with celebrations,
though? Ciara gave her weyrmate a mischevious grin. "I could try and
make one."
"Can you bake?"
"No, that's the problem." There had never been a need for her to, so
why would she have ever learned? "I don't. I'd probably burn it."
"I'm sure the Headwoman will help you," teased her weyrmate. "How hard
can it be?"
"Famous last words." Ciara had no idea where to begin. "But I suppose
I can ask."
"Radela will appreciate it whatever."
"What do you think we should get her?"
"She's too young for more than toys," K'sedel said, thinking
aloud. "Maybe a doll? Or a stuffed feline?"
"A doll." Ciara remembered fondly the dolls she used to play with when
she was little. Granted, she couldn't remember quite back to _that_ age,
but still, it was something Radela might like. "I think a doll would be
nice."
"I'm sure we can get one for her."
"But it has to be the right one." Just any old doll wouldn't do. "I'll
start looking around. Or...maybe I should commission one to be
made." How long would that take? Ciara had no idea. Her sewing skills were
limited to mending.
"I wonder if we can find one of the Trader Caravans, they might have
something."
"That's an idea." Ciara hadn't thought of that. "We can ride and see
if we can find one. I'm afraid I don't know their schedules."
"There should be a list in the Headwoman's office, I think they leave one
there so that we know when to expect them."
That certainly made sense. "I'll stop by tomorrow and check their schedule.
Would you want to go with me?"
"To the traders, the Headwoman or both?" teased her weyrmate.
Ciara lightly slapped at K'sedel's arm. "I'll go to the Headwoman alone,
but would you like to go with me to the traders?"
"You know I will."
"I'll talk to the Headwoman tomorrow then."
