Characters: Briata, T'vanen
Description: T'vanen comes to visit Briata at GVH and she tells him about the upcoming marriage.
Location: Garnet Valley Hold
Date: month 13, day 21 of Turn 4
Notes: Mentioned: Ishek
The bronze assured him that Briata was at _this_ Hold and not at her
home where he would have expected her to be. T'vanen trusted his
lifemate and landed in front of the small part of the Hold that
protruded from the cliff. He wasn't a regular visitor to the place, but
he'd been there on a couple of occasions - often enough to know he could
get lost very quickly looking for Briata in the natural caverns the Hold
used to house its population.
**Could you tell Briata I'm here, and ask if it's convenient for her to
meet me?**
}:I have done so,:{ the bronze said, settling down on his haunches and
making it clear he wasn't going to go anywhere until they were ready to
leave.
**No watch dragon?** T'vanen asked, glancing around at the rocky slopes
surrounding the valley.
}:I am comfortable here,:{ Qwarith said firmly, neither answering or
acknowledging his rider's question.
A little over a quarter candlemark later, Briata appeared, a bright
smile lighting her face. She raised her hand in greeting before she got
close enough to speak to him and picked up her pace.
"T'vanen!" She stated cheerfully as she drew within earshot. Her gaze
turned to the bronze and she went silent long enough to give indication
that she was greeting him as well. Her blue eyes darted back to the
rider, her smile unwavering. "How are you?"
"I'm very well, thank you." He couldn't help but match her smile. "And
you, Briata?"
"I'm absolutely wonderful!" Briata moved forward to slide her arm into
T'vanen's. "Come, please. Have you eaten? I must introduce you to Ishek!"
"The ... The Lord Warder?" He was baffled as to why he would want to
be introduced to the man. "I think I've met him, though he might not
remember. There are crowds of us bronzeriders, after all." The
bronzerider leaned a little closer to his companion and asked in an
undertone: "Why are we going to meet him?"
"He's just lovely. He's asked me to marry him and I've accepted. I'd
love for him to meet you, after all, you are a dear friend." Briata
guided the bronzerider inside and through the hallways. In her short
time there, she had quickly memorized much of the layout and could find
her way to most places fairly easily. "But we should get you something
to eat first."
"Something to eat would be nice," the bronzerider said while he digested
the rest of her words. "You mean you're going to be the _Lady_Holder_,
Briata?"
"Only temporarily." Briata stated matter of factly. "He's Lord Warder.
When Aslian is of age, he will take over. We're just watching over
Garnet Valley until he is able to."
"'We're'," he repeated with a smile and a little pang of disappointment.
"You're settled in to this new role already, aren't you?"
"To be honest, I feel a bit like a fish out of water." Briata admitted
with a small sigh. "I'm not really anything yet as the marriage isn't
until after Turn's beginning and so...my place is a bit foggy at the
moment."
"Future Lady Warder?" T'vanen suggested. "Is this a sudden decision,
Briata?"
"It was a rather fast decision." Briata agreed with a nod. "But it
feels right. I like him a lot and I've made the choice to love him.
This is as it should be."
Raised to a rather different point of view T'vanen found the ideas she
seemed to accept rather odd, but he had been dealing with holder folk
long enough to know that because he didn't agree with their attitudes
didn't give him the right to interfere. "I suppose. You didn't ever
think about coming to the Weyr? I'm sure we could have found a way to
shut down some of the noise you heard."
"Oh I've thought about it." The option had crossed her mind on more
than one occasion, even before her visit there. T'vanen was right,
Briata was sure, that they would have found a way to shut down the
noise. Or, perhaps, she would have simply gotten used to it over time.
Even so, it didn't change things. "But really, my place his here with
Ishek."
"Ahh, well. Congratulations," he said, trying to sound as cheerful as
he ought to. "He's a lucky man."
"Thank you." The girl's expression beamed. "But come, let me show you
around. Have you ever been to Garnet Valley before? It's quite
different from Onyx Peak, in more ways than simply size, but it's lovely
in its own way."
"I've been in and out - errands and about Threadfall and things. Not to
look around."
"Well, why don't we let you get a closer look." Briata suggested as she
picked up her pace. It would be nice to show T'vanen her new home. Her
home. Yes, she was going to have to get used to that.
"I'd like that. And from the future Lady Warder no less. I'm
flattered," he teased.
"Future Lady Warder or no, I'm still me." Briata reminded him with a laugh.
