"I think I've got a problem." B'lamick said in greeting when F'naren opened the door to his weyr.

The brownrider grinned. "Sounds interesting. Come in." He led the bronzerider back to the low armchairs, side-by-side, and the low table out in front of them. "Have a seat. Have this," he added, settling himself into one of the chairs and passing over the second bottle of ale he had brought up to his room from the dining cavern. He picked up his own bottle again and put his feet up on the table. Perfect.

B'lamick flopped down into a chair beside him and groaned. "Tey."

"Tey? Greenrider Tey? Tidy within a handsbreadth of her life, Tey? Surely she couldn't be a problem, unless you're sneaking into her room while she's out and messing it up. Then ... maybe."

B'lamick rolled his eyes, "You're such a dramatic, you know that? I'm serious."

F'naren nodded at the ale bottle in the other dragonrider's hand. "Drink up - it reduces the seriousness of most situations - and tell me what the problem is."

"I think I'm falling for her." he replied. He hadn't actually said
it out loud before, and doing so made it seem all the more scary.

The long final sip of ale nearly choked the brownrider. "Really?" It wasn't a pairing that had ever seemed likely to him, though he knew the two were friends. Friends did seem to be all they were. "What makes you think that?"

B'lamick sighed, how could he explain this to him when he didn't completely understand himself. "Because she's important to me. I want to be with her all the time. I want to be the one that makes her smile and laugh and I get jealous when somebody else does. Because I _really_ want to win her next flight, and because I don't really want to win anyone else's."

"Wow. That's a lot of ... stuff. And you know the whole jealousy thing isn't going to win you any points with her, don't you? She's weyrbred to the core, that one."

"That's the least of my worries." He'd deal with his jealousy eventually, but right now he had no claim to be jealous at all.

"So, what's the problem?" F'naren shrugged, looking sadly at his empty ale bottle. "You tell her how you feel, she laughs, you wait a few months and try again."

B'lamick sighed, he could tell F'naren wasn't taking this seriously. "What if it's not love, what if it's just a crush? What if I realize in a month that I don't really feel that way for her? I don't want to lose her as a friend, I don't want it to become strained."

"I don't think she would and how can you tell unless you try? And strained? I think it's heading that way already, with you agonizing over this."

The bronzerider got up and stared wandering between the storage
cabinet and the bed. "It's a moot point anyways, she doesn't feel the
same way about me. Even if I _wanted_ to act on my feelings, which I
don't, it wouldn't be reciprocated.

"You don't _know_ that, do you?" F'naren asked, wondering if he had missed something in the conversation. "Has she said that?"

B'lamick shook his head, "No, but she's _Tey_. She the most straight forward level headed person I've ever met. If she wanted to kiss me or have sex with me, or just punch me, she'd just say it." Just thinking about her made him smile, and he wanted to slap himself to help snap him out of it. What he really wanted to do was to go back in time, back to before he thought about her as anything other than just _Tey_...

"Maybe she just hasn't thought of you in that way. And she won't until you make her realize ... Goodness knows how."

"But then we're back to _strained_." He looked down and saw that his ale was gone, he hadn't even realized he'd been drinking it. He was running around in circles about Tey and his talk with F'naren hadn't really cleared anything up. Maybe if he just left it alone... maybe if it _was_ just a crush it'd go away on it's own. He lifted up the empty bottle, "Do you have any more of these? I think I'm going to need them."
