Description: Corofel discovers that there is such thing as adult conspiracy against children.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 1, day 15 of Turn 5
Aivorn was measuring the withers of some foals with his apprentices when Corofel came and climbed to sit on the fence.
"Hi, master Aivorn. I want to go riding, can I have Emerald Champion?" he asked.
"Greetings, your lordship," the master replied. "No, you can't have Champion. He's too demanding for you. You'll have Iron Traveller as usual," he continued, his attention in the foal in front of him. He called out the measurements and the apprentice wrote them down.
"But his gelding!" Corofel protested.
"So? What has it to do with anything?"
"I want to ride a stallion, I'm the Lord's heir!" the lad demanded.
Aivorn sighed. Ten turns old lad trying to pull a rank on him? What was wrong with the children of these days?
"Traveller is a good runner, with steady gait, and suitable for beginner rider like you," he explained patiently.
"I'll make dad to order you to give me Champion!" Corofel declared loudly and angrily.
Aivorn almost laughed out aloud. Based on what he knew about the Lord Holder, he was very responsible father. He didn't believe one second that he would let his son ride with a runner who was like to throw him off his back and get his heir's neck broken. "Go ahead and try."
"You'll see!" Corofel said ominously and jumped off from the fence and stalked towards the hold.
Aivorn turned to his apprentice. "Go and saddle Traveller ready for him."
~*~ "Dad!" Corofel burst right into his father's office. "Aivorn won't let me ride Champion. I want to ride Champion. Force him to give Champion to me!"
Corowal was not happy, when he interrupted his negotiations with a holder. The look he gave to his son was cold one. "Excuse me," he said to the holder and then replied to Corofel: "Corofel. You're not allowed to barge in like this. You should knock first and wait for permission. And Champion is too demanding mount for you. If master Aivorn says you can't ride him, then you won't ride him. You will take what ever runner he assigns for you."
"But dad "
"No buts. This matter is not open for discussion. Now, leave, please," Corowal's voice was stern.
"Da-ad," Corofel tried the appealing voice.
"Do you want to be grounded for the rest of the sevenday?"
"No. Sorry, dad," Corofel replied with sulking tone. He recognized when he was defeated. It was conspiracy, he decided. Grown-ups had all united against him. He left the office dejected and sulking. He gave the door a kick before leaving.
He slowly returned to the beasthold.
"Do you still want to go riding?" Aivorn asked when he arrived.
"Yes," Corofel sighed.
"Traveller is waiting for you," the stablemaster pointed towards the runner.
Yes, it was conspiracy all right, Corofel sighed.
