Description: Alrog tells Parale about his betrothal.
Location: Garnet Valley Hold
Date: month 1, day 17 of Turn 5
"Petris, you better be back in two candlemarks or I will have your
hide!" Parale knew she probably shouldn't waste her breath. The boys
were having such a fun time and she was pretty sure they had been
spending their extra time peeking at the girls their age. Another few
months and they'd be going home, to be replaced with new fosterlings.
She'd miss them.
Walking down the hall, carrying her basket of laundry, she pushed her
scarf higher up on her head, hoping she wouldn't have to retie the
thing.
Alrog was on his way to see the Harper, when he spotted a familiar
figure. He had spent several turns as a fosterling in the hold as a
child, and had learned to know many people. It was always comforting
to see that those people were still here and doing the same job.
"Hello, Parale, still trying to keep the fosterlings in leash?"
She stopped for a moment, her attention diverted. It took her a bit
before realization struck and she recognized the holder. "Aye of
course, though it seems I fight a losing battle most days." Her eyes
rolled, but there was a warmth in her eyes that spoke of contentment.
"What brings you up?"
"Just some stuff with the main hold. Did you hear I'm
getting married?" Alrog replied with a grin.
Her eyes were surprised for a moment, but otherwise she showed no
reaction. "Well congratulations are in order then. Who's the lucky
lady?" She'd been so caught up with learning that Ishek was marrying
that she hadn't heard about Alrog.
"With Fieayz, she's a fosterling from Smithcraft hall," Alrog replied.
"Since you never agreed to marry me," he added teasingly with an
over-dramatic sigh. He had been fourteen when he had a crush on her.
It had ended when he was called back home because of his father's
illness and death.
A mere fosterling? How odd. Parale kept her tongue, though. "Aye well
I wasn't ready to settle just then." She shrugged it off. "When are
the nuptials taking place?"
"We haven't set a date yet. We are waiting on permission from her
father first. He lives so far off it takes time," Alrog replied and
explained. He realized that he sounded bit defensive.
"Ah well good luck to you both then." Parale wondered if there was
any reason why the father would drag his feet to give the permission
but she kept her mouth shut. "I hear your holding prospers."
"Yes, it does. You should visit it someday. I love to show it off to
people," Alrog said.
"I'll surely try. Hard to with the little ones and all." She smiled
gently then put an arm on his shoulder. "By the egg I wish you well.
I better be going, but till we meet again."
