Location: Elsewhere on Pern
Date: month 2, day 14 of Turn 5
Notes: Shadow Cove

Shadow Cove was starting to become one of those places a person hated. What about low key didn't his uncle understand? If he kept meeting here people would start to remember him, and not just as a dragonrider, but as a _particular_ dragonrider, and they might start to wonder what was so interesting about this dirty old tavern that kept drawing him here. He saw his uncle in a corner booth in the back, full of shadow, but still visible. It had better be good.

Bartonn looked up when he heard another entering the tavern. He nodded to his nephew when Y'nub came into sight and indicated that he should join him. There were two mugs of ale, one obviously for the dragonrider while the one Bartonn nursed was almost gone. "I need transportation." He spoke low so that his words would not travel beyond Y'nub.

"Did you lose your ship?" Y'nub muttered, mouth covered from view by the mug as he took a drink. He knew better than to treat Larweth like a runner.

"Going by ship would take too long." Bartonn frowned at the tone of his nephew but said nothing about it. "I know where they are now, but they may move by the time I get there if I go by ship."

Y'nub grunted and sat his mug down. "Why the rush? I can't be ferrying you all around the planet for meetings, talk will start again like it did up North. We agreed you'd only call on me when necessary to keep suspicion down."

"I was robbed." Bartonn explained slowly, leaning forward as if to better get his point across. "From one of my own drop points. I know who it was, I know where he is and I mean to take care of business, but I need fast transit."

He knew what his uncle meant by taking care of business. He also knew what would happen if anyone found out that he was involved. Still, it was a matter of honor at this point. If his uncle let the theft go unpunished, it would be a hit against the Gray Gale and that was unacceptable. "All right. Where?"

"Esper Bay." If the man had thought that Bartonn wouldn't follow him there, he had another thing coming. "Too far away to travel by ship and get there in time."

"I can't fly into the Hold," Y'nub reasoned. Esper Bay was large, and a dragon would be seen by plenty. "I could drop you off down the coast out of sight and come back for you tomorrow night."

"That will be amenable." As much as Bartonn wanted to get Grenet, he didn't want to attract attention either. He pushed his chair back and stood. "Let's go."

Y'nub nodded but didn't rise. He waited until his uncle walked out of the tavern and then took another drink from his mug. It was rather nasty ale when he thought about it. He needed to wait until the people up front forgot that the man had just walked out before he could leave. The less people who placed them together the better.
