Location: Garnet Valley Hold
Date: month 1, day 1 of Turn 5
Ishek had changed into his formal wedding clothes, the nicest pair of black
trousers he owned, and a formal, embroidered tunic in the Hold color of
garnet. He couldn't help but swallow nervously, looking around for Carlan.
He hadn't seen Briata in her dress, and he wondered what she looked like.
He'd know any moment now. The wedding would start any moment now. And
shards, he was nervous!
"I'm sure she'll be here shortly Milord," Carlan said reassuringly. He
still couldn't believe that they hadn't sent to the Hall for a Master
Harper, or even the Hallmaster himself to perform this ceremony and was
aware of what an honour it was.
"I can't believe I'm so nervous, even when I've done this before." Ishek
said. "What if I forget my vows?"
"If I had a mark from every groom who had said that to me, I'd be a wealthy
man," said the Harper. "But alas I stand here without much. Trust me
milord, nobody in my experience has ever forgotten what they want to say to
their intended."
It was then that Briata appeared adorned in a dress, a dress that she had
told Ishek about - it had been her mother's. Her father was at her side,
his arm linked in hers and, together, they made their way to the Lord Warder
and awaiting harper. As Briata's gaze caught Ishek's she smiled, eyes
twinkling in delight.
Ishek smiled back and everything suddenly became alright. Briata was lovely
and smiling, and he felt his heart catch in his throat at how lovely she
was. His vows flooded back and he smiled at Carlan, too. "I can't wait for
this to be over," he confided.
"In that case, perhaps we should begin," Carlan smiled as he spoke.
Briata was brought forward and her hand placed in to Ishek's by her father.
Bridinar stepped back and Briata turned her face upward to gaze upon her
soon to be husband.
"Briata," Ishek began, the golden mark in his hand, "you have been a source
of joy ever since I met you. You have been a shoulder to rest on, an ear to
listen, and a bright smile to warm my heart. You have become a friend and a
source of strength. If you would be my wife, I would cherish you, protect
you from harm and ill, and spend my life with you."
"Now, Briata," Carlan smiled at the bride. "If you should find those words
appealing, and you wish to accept Ishek as your husband, you should take the
mark from him, and tell him so."
Briata reached out and accepted the mark, clutching it tightly. "Ishek your
words please me like no other. I am grateful for your friendship and
promise to love and cherish you for the rest of my days. You will be first
and foremost in my life and I shall forsake all others. My life is yours."
There was a pause at this point as a small riple of nodding and smilling
across the room. Then Carlan spoke. "You have accepted the mark, as a token
of your love and comittment to each other, and made your promises in front
of witnesses. So, it now gives me great pleasure to say that you are
married. Congratulations to the pair of you."
Ishek pulled Briata close and kissed her gently, promising her more to come
but keeping it quick for the audience's sake. "I love you, my wife."
"And I love you." There was no room for anything but the truth in those
words. That was it. The ceremony was over and it was official. They were
married, they were one - from now until forever.
