Briata

Briata

"Lady Warder," the bronzerider with a sketched salute in the direction
of the young woman who had once consented to ride off on his dragon with
him. How long ago it seemed that they had gone to the Hatching at
Dragonsfall - and now Briata was married to the Garnet Valley Lord Warder.

"T'vanen!" Briata's eyes brightened as did her smile when she spotted
the familiar bronzerider. She moved over to give him a hug in greeting.
"How are you?"

"I'm fine," he assured her, rather taken by the warmth of her greeting.
Was she bored in her new role already? Or perhaps just homesick for
familiar faces. "We had a little incident a sevenday or so ago but we'll
be back flying with the Wing in a few days, I'm sure."

"An incident?" Briata's smile faded into a frown of concern. "What
happened?" She looked him over - he seemed unharmed but that didn't
necessarily mean much.

"Qwarith's wings are too wide," the young man said with a laugh, though
he hadn't felt like laughing at the time. "If he'd been a green the
Thread would have missed him completely."

"I'm glad you're both all right." Healing, at least, well enough to fly
even if not to fight. "And I am glad to see you. Pray tell, what did I
do to deserve a visit?"

"I might have to admit the truth - I was getting bored. There are only
so many make-work jobs to go around at the Weyr and Qwarith and I have
done our share. Or finished our share a while ago. And here we are.
Checking up on our friend, Briata, the Lady Warder."

Briata's smile faltered at the mention of her title. "Well, I must say
T'vanen, it's great to see a familiar and friendly face. I've been
thinking about you and wondering how you were. Will you stay for dinner?"

"Er - I'd be honoured, if Lord Ishek wouldn't mind. I've nothing to rush
back to River Bluff for."

"I don't see why he would mind." It wasn't like she was going to bring
T'vanen to her bed chamber, even though Ishek seemed hesitant to do his
duty as a husband. "Besides, you can't go visiting on an empty stomach."

"Is that so? Is that some sort of Garnet Valley rule?" he asked with a
teasing smile. "Because my wingleader thinks I can be sent on any job
with an empty stomach."

"Yes, it's a rule I just implemented." Briata giggled as she gently
tugged at T'vanen's arm. "Come on, we can't let you starve."

"I don't think I'd starve but all right. We can catch up on your news
over -" he glanced at the sky - still the quickest way for a dragonrider
to place himself in different times across Pern, "an afternoon snack."

"Talk is always well accompanied by food." And with that, Briata led
T'vanen further into the Hold.
