Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 8, day 8 of Turn 3

K'far could feel a slight chill as he took of his riding cap. It was too hot to wear, but when he took it off his head the cool wind wiped through his dark brown hair. He had grown a beard to combat the cooler Dragonsfall temperatures. Perhaps now he should think about growing his hair out a bit more to protect his head. Especially his ears! They burned with the cold as the brownrider replaced his cap, if just to offer his ears some escape from the biting cold. Having lived 30 years at Dolphin Cove, the winters at Dragonsfall had been quite a shock. He never seemed to be able to get completely warm.

**Shards, it's cold as /between/ today!**

}: You say that every day, :{ his brown Torth replied, amused at his rider's antics as he wrapped his arms around his middle and stomped his feet. }: The other riders seem to survive. :{ K'far snorted as he looked at his brown out of the corner of his eye.

**Don't tell me you don't miss the Dolphin Cove sunshine even a _little_.**

}:The warm days will come,:{ was his brown's practical reply.

His rider was about to make some kind of comment about how he would believe it went he felt it, but a woman's voice interrupted them.
**Shards...** He knew the voice without even seeing her face. It was a voice that seemed to follow him _everywhere_. K'far tried to keep his tone even as he turned. "Nineba?"

"Hi. You looked wonderful up there." She glanced at the sky, then back at K'far. Her smile was almost shy. "You and Torth work so well together."

K'far resisted the urge to give a sarcastic snort. "Thank you." She spoke as if it was the first time she had ever seen them drill. He knew better. She had been watching his every move for months, it seemed.

"It's kind of cold out, so I brought you some klah." Nineba produced a thermos from beneath her down coat and held it out toward him.
"I've got two cups, too. Maybe we could go sit and talk. Like we used to?"

The brownrider looked at the thermos in her hands. If it had been another other woman, or man even in this bloody cold, he would take them up on the offer. But Nineba... "Thank you, but actually I have to meet with my wingleader." It was an accuse, but he would find a reason to visit him. After all, he was pretty sure the woman would follow him to be sure that was where he was going anyway...

"Oh." Nineba looked momentarily crestfallen, but rallied admirably.
"Well, you could have some on the way. I can walk you."

Shards. "Well, I was going to fly Torth back up to our weyr and put my riding gear away first."

"I could come with you! I can help. And I like flying with you and Torth." She fluttered her eyelashes coyly at him. "You make me feel so safe."

The woman just would never get it! The brownrider was trying to be nice about it all, but he just was not interested in making her feel safe anymore! "Not this time, I really have no time. In fact I should get going now."

"Oh. All right. I understand." Nineba smiled and tucked the thermos back into her coat. The wind gusted and blew her brown hair into her face, and she brushed it aside impatiently. "You go talk with your Wingleader, then. I'll see you later tonight."

"Later tonight?" he asked cautiously. K'far was pretty sharding sure he had never made a promise with her for later.

Nineba nodded and blew him a kiss. It seemed to hang frozen in the air between them. "Of course. You should get going then. I'll see you later, Boo."

**Shards...** "Good bye Nineba," brownrider said in an even tone as he swung up on his brown's neck. **Get me as far away from that woman as possible, Torth.**

She didn't flinch as Torth's wings kicked up snow and sent it spinning into her eyes, and she waved at him as he flew off, sure that he was watching her. He wasn't.
