K'reyel

K'reyel

Marza took a deep breath and squared her shoulders as she landed on
the ground near the Weyrleader's office.

Creaith nuzzled her shoulder and the green rider reached up to pat her
dragon's neck, grateful for the comfort.

}: You will be fine. He will not hurt you. :{

** So you say. ** Marza smiled a half smile of nerves.

The green growled softly. }: I will not let him. :{

Marza smiled and hugged Creaith's neck, ** Thank you dear one, but I
don't think he'll hurt me really ... only my pride. **

The young rider squared her shoulders and walked crisply towards the
Weyrleader's office in answer to his summons.

"Come!" The door was slightly ajar, and it wasn't hard for K'reyel to see
someone approaching.

Taking a deep breath, Marza pushed the door open and stepped into the
Weyrleader's office. "You wanted to see me, sir?"

"Yes I did Greenrider, take a seat."

Marza blinked nervously and sat in the indicated seat. She sat stiffly,
and bracing for what was to come. It was bad enough that she was
here, worse that she was here because she caused Creaith harm.

"Do you want to tell me what happened out there?"

"Yessir," she took a deep breath, "The fall was just a normal fall.
We went /between/ to dodge a patch of thread and when we came back
out, Creaith's wing tip got caught in some thread. We ducked
/between/ quickly and the dragonhealer said that the damage is
minimal." Pain flashed across Marza's face as she remembered the
horrible scream that Creaith had let loose before ducking /between/.

"Do you think this was an accident, or did you perhaps misjudge things out
there?" K'reyel was patient, there was no use getting angry if all it would
take was getting the rider to step back and think for a minute so that they
might think more carefully in future.

Marza bit her lip and took a minute to think, "I don't know sir. The
thread was falling in a regular pattern, but .... " she shrugged and
looked a little helpless. **Cre? It was an accident, wasn't it?**

}: I thought that I would miss the thread. I did not expect it to be there.
:{

The young greenrider blinked again, "Creaith didn't think that the
would be any thread there."

"That's where you come into things. Remember the lectures you had about
being a team, a partnership in Weyrlinghood?" He didn't wait for her to
acknowledge that fact, sure that the Weyrlingmaster would have made a point
of it. "Sometimes it will take both of you together to judge what might
happen. If Creaith thinks something, if you have the time ask her if she's
sure. Does that make sense?"

"But ... " Marza started.

"Individually you're both good, but with your lifemate, you are the best you
can be. And you have to work on that, not just for you, but for your
wingmates as well. You have to remind each other that your actions could
impact on them as well."

"Yes, Weyrleader," Marza answered meekly, concern flashing across her
face as she thought about the impact of her activities on her
wingmates.

"For now, I think you've had enough of a wake up call with that injury to
your green, but I want you to try and think more carefully in future. Don't
let me see you in here again for this. Is that understood?"

The greenrider nodded, "Yessir. I'll remember." }: I do not want
to get other people hurt :{ The green dragon sounded almost pitiful.

"Then you're dismissed."

Marza nodded, and left the weyrleader's office.

Creaith was just outside. The green dipped her head towards her
rider, }: We did not hurt anyone :{

** I know, dear one, but we could have. I think that that was the
Weyrleader's point. ** Marza reached up to stroke her dragon's
muzzle. ** We will do better next time. **

}: We will. :{
