Location: Dragonsfall Weyr

Nialyn watched him from the other side of the dining cavern, watched him laugh and smile that charming, flashing grin of his as he leaned closer to whisper something in a greenrider's ear. Her fingers tightened over the folded napkin, and she bit her lower lip. Hard.
She needed to talk to him. She needed to tell him. But what would he say? What would he think? What would _she_ say? And shards...she hardly knew what to think herself. What did _any_ woman think when they were in a situation like this?
Flushing, she rubbed the side of her neck, knowing that she should be concentrating on her duties, but she couldn't. She couldn't...
Her eyes kept on flickering back to him.
A Weyr was different than a Hold or Hall. A situation like hers would have caused such a stir in either of those places. But not here. Here, it was a normal occurance. Something that happened nearly every sharding day!
Nialyn took in a deep breath. She was thinking too far ahead. It wasn't even for sure yet. She hadn't gone to the healers. She hadn't even told her mother. And it was going to be so hard to tell her... Though why it should be, Nialyn had no idea. Her mother was with men all the time now. Different men. She had taken to Weyrlife like a dragon takes to the winds.
Why was it so sharding easy for her, but so hard for Nialyn? Why couldn't she just _lose_ these holdbred inhibitions of hers? Why was it so sharding hard for her to accept certain things - to accept _this_?
**But you don't know for _sure_ yet...** Shards. She glanced at Birigundi again, watching as he kissed that greenrider lightly on the lips. Something stirred inside of her at the sight and she felt her jaw tighten slightly. Nervously, she rubbed her hands together. She needed to talk to him.
She would send him a note. Yes...that was what she'd do. A note... A note telling him to come meet her later in the evening, if he wasn't otherwise...engaged in other activities, of course...
"Biri, you're really sweet, but my Weyrmate would kill me if I brought you home to our weyr, and you don't have a weyr of your own..." the greenrider shrugged. "Maybe when you Impress and you have a less public sleeping place we can pick this up where we left off." She stood and gave him one more gentle kiss and a wink. "I'll be rooting for you in the next Hatching."
The candidate sighed as he watched her walk off. **Shards** he thought with a slight frown. The candidate barracks were starting to really cramp his sex life...
His thoughts were disturbed by a scrap of hide slipped onto the table next to him by a passing drudge. "From Nialyn," she whispered and gave him a knowing smile as she went back to her duties.
Nialyn! He perked up immediately at the sound of that name. Of course!
She was that really sweet drudge. The one whose mother came from the north. That had been a fun night. Shards, why hadn't he visited her since then? Well, he had been a little distracted, but still...
He carefully scanned the note and grinned. It looked like he wouldn't be spending the night alone after all! Sure, he could come to her weyr when she got off duty. Perhaps he should go for his run now, and take a quick bath to pass the time. Shards, if only he had something to write with. Standing up he glanced around the dinning hall until he caught sight of the pretty fair haired girl. As her eyes glanced up at his he held up the note and smiled, nodding the affirmative.

Nialyn shifted on the couch, recrossing her legs. Again. She couldn't get comfortable. Absently tucking her hair behind her ears, her eyes drifted over to the door. He'd come any time now. He'd knock...and he'd come in... Oh, shards! What would she say? How would she tell him? How would she bring it up? Birigundi smiled as he stood outside the door, his body still radiating heat under his easily removeable tunic and his skin still had that fresh tingling feeling after a good scrubbing with sweet sand. He had borrowed a little of that sweet smelling oil Oflin said drove the ladies wild, and he had to admit, he found it rather effective in the past. Birigundi made a mental note to locate a bottle of it for himself at the next gather as he gave the door a good knock to announce his presence and peaked his head inside.
"Nialyn?"
She sat up straighter, her heart beginning to pound a little faster now as she looked at him. "Come on in, Biri." He closed to door gently behind him. "How have you been?" Birigundi asked as he walked towards the sofa.
She cleared her throat. **You want the honest truth?** "I've been doing all right... You?"
"Not bad at all." **Still nervous, I see.** He gave her a reassuring smile as he sank into the cushion next to her, laying his arm lazily across the back. "I was surprised to get your note."
Shells. He smelled good... "I was hoping that you wouldn't be busy tonight..." Shards, she needed to get to the point... But how could she bring it up? She crossed her other leg, then recrossed it, before finally giving up and curling both knees up on the couch. "No, I'm not busy. You get me all night if you want me," he said as he ran his fingers softly along the inside of her arm and down the back of her hand. "I hadn't seen you since that one night. I was half afraid I scared you off."
Despite everything she was feeling, that little spark of feminine vanity couldn't be suppressed as he said that to her. But it faded as swiftly as it came when she finally found the nerve to glance up into his face.
**It might be me who scares you off, Birigundi, when you hear what I have to say...** Would it? But the Weyrs were different from Halls and Holds... The attitudes of the people were different... So different. But what would he do? Shards.
Nialyn needed to say it now, before she lost all her will.
"I...there's a reason why I... Birigundi, I think I'm pregnant." The words came out in a quiet rush and she looked down, too embarrassed to look him in the eye.
It took a brief moment for the abrupt subject change to sink in. He looked down at his suddenly still fingers, letting the full meaning sinking in... At that moment the only co-herent though that flashed though his mind was, **Shards...**
