Description: Alrog arranges brithday surprise for his wife.
Location: Garnet Valley Hold
Date: month 4, day 19 of Turn 5
Alrog just wished his sister Rolfina and her baby would able to keep
Fieayz distracted and out of the way long enough. Sneaking behinds his
wife's back felt odd, wrong, even if it was to arrange a surprise
party for her birthday. He snuck a peek out from the main door and
scanned the sky. He was expecting guests from the Weyr. He returned
back in to the dining hall.
"Any sign?" his youngest sister, Rogalfia asked. She was standing on
the table hanging garlands to the ceiling.
"Not yet, how's decoration?"
"Almost done. Something smells delicious," she replied and noted, when
the drudges brought in trays full of food. Another one rolled in
casket of ale. Alrog knew that there was also plenty of wine cooling
down. You couldn't say that the Iron Lake didn't know how to throw a
generous party.
"Dragon!" came a cry from outside as a brownrider with a passenger landed
outside the hold proper.
"We're here," the rider told his passenger. "We better be," Jayzine
retorted. "You think I'd miss my daughter's party?"
"You think I'd let you?" answered her brother with another question.
Alrog rushed outside to greet them. "Welcome to the Iron Lake hold. It
so nice you were able to come," he greeted.
"Neither of us would miss this," Jayzine told him as her brother assisted
her down, before dismounting himself. "Does she know?"
"No, this will be a surprise for her," Alrog chuckled. He looked at
the brown. "There's nice ledge in the mountain side right above the
hold, that gets plenty of sun. You might find it a pleasant place to
perch."
A'jay nodded. "He says it does look sunny up there, and to tell you not to
worry about any beasts as he isn't hungry."
"He would be welcome to hunt from our flocks if he were," Alrog said.
"We have dragonrider quests so rarely," he continued and gestured
towards the door, "shall we go inside?"
Fieayz handed the babe back to Alrog's sister. "I think it could be your
turn," she said wrinkling her nose. "That smells like a totally terrible
nappy."
"So he does, " the mother remarked. She wondered if she was going to
expose the surprise with her behaviour. It was hard to act normal,
when you were jittery with excitement. Fieayz's comming had certainly
livened up the hold.
"Want me to find you a cloth to clean him with?"
"Yes, please," Rolfina replied.
"Aha," Fieayz pulled out a bag. "Is this the one with his things in?"
"Yes,", Rolfina replied and spotted Lapis, his brother's blue
firelizard. It was pre-agreed signal to take Fieayz downstairs. What a
timing, she winced. There was no way to leave, until the boy was
changed.
"There you go," Fieayz said, clean cloth in one hand and fresh nappy in the
other. "You okay?" she said noticing Rolfina's expression.
"I think we are need downstairs. Well, they just have to wait until
he's ready. Could you hand me those clothes that are hanging from the
hook," she replied and asked. They were notably better than the
everyday clothes for the baby.
Fieayz did as she was asked. "That's a nice colour for him," she said
wondering what was going on.
"Where are they?" Alrog fidgeted nervously.
"Should I go to look?" Rolfina's husband suggested. Then he added:
"It's probably the baby, you never manage to be in time, not with
him."
"Maybe you should," suggested Jayzine. "I want to see my daughter's face
sooner rather than later."
He was just about to leave when Rolfina, the baby and Fieayz finaly
came in. "Surprise! Happy birthday Fieayz!" they all yelled.
"Alrog? Mama? What are you doing here?" a look of surprise and pleasure
crossed Fieayz's face. "Is all this for me?"
"Yes, it is, "Alrog replied, pleased with the success.
"Now I know why I love you," she said coming close enough to throw her arms
around him. Nobody else would have thought to get Mama here."
"And me," her Uncle said stepping forward.
"I'm happy when you're happy," Alrog replied. "Come on, the feast is
waiting."
"You're spoiling me!" It was a faint effort at a protest, and one not really
meant. "How did you manage all this?"
"Well, it wasn't easy and took a lot of sneaking behind your back,"
Alrog replied. "And I worried that Arva would expose us any moment.
But she was wonderful and allowed me to attach letters to her."
"Well thank you very much," it was all she could say. "I'm sure this is
going to me a wonderful day now."
