Zathris

Zathris

"So who are you going to experiment with while I'm gone?" Isily asked Zathris as she sat across from him in the Tavern. They were sitting at their table at their once a sevenday meeting where Barthella tried out her latest recipe ideas on them.

"Probably Benani. She likes to come here sometimes too, just not as much as I do." Zathris took a sip of his beer, the head dotting its foam upon his upper lip for a moment befre he wiped it away. "I probably am here with her about as much as I am with you."

Isily smiled. She'd met the new Lady Holder briefly on multiple occassions, though she'd never seen her down at the Tavern. "Well good. I won't feel so bad as I'm trekking through the distant holds sampling the finest of travel rations and meager offerings of the cotholders."

"You are going with an escort, aren't you?" Zathris asked, turning the subject in a slightly different direction. "Not alone?"

"Of course not." Like her Master would let her. "Rulio is coming with me. Really I wasn't supposed to go at all, but you know my master's hip just isn't up to the travel this turn. Rulio is a fine journeyman when it comes to smaller devices, but he's only passable at the larger wiring."

"Good." Zathris nodded. He worried a bit about Isily. While he had no problem with female crafters himself, he knew many other people did. They weren't always welcoming to the female crafters and he didn't want anything to happen to her. "Tell him if he doesn't take good care of you, he'll have to answer to me personally."

Isily chuckled and patted his hand resting on the table. "If he survives me, I'll make sure to send him your way as well." His protective nature was sweet, but she hadn't lasted in a predominantly male craft without being tough.

"I'll have to think of some proper punishments if he doesn't, though." Zathris mused, smiling at her gentle gesture. "Maybe I can suggest that I have him carved up and Barthella figure out a particularly exotic dish with him as the main ingredient."

"Oh that's gross!" She scrunched up her face in disgust, but laughed anyways because it was funny.

"Just let him keep it in mind." Zathris grinned, glad that he had gotten a laugh out of her. "I can be mean when I have to be."

Isily didn't believe him. She'd never seen him so much as shout at anyone. She thanked the girl that refilled her water glass and watched her go back behind the kitchen door. "You know, if you're that concerned for my safety, you could come with us. Surely a bit of traveling to check in on your cotholders isn't that odd."

"I am actually visiting a couple of holds, but the plan wasn't for another couple of sevendays." The young Lord Holder paused for a moment, then asked, "Which hold are you visiting?"

"All of them." She said, slight surprise in her voice. With most of the cotholds in Amber Hills territory using electricity and most of them not knowing a thing about how to take care of it, annual inspections were a must.

"I didn't realise it was going to be that long of a trip." She had mentioned it, but Zathris hadn't really pressed for details. "Perhaps. We'll see. You don't leave for another few days yet, am I right?"

She hadn't really been serious when she'd mentioned him coming with them, but if he wanted to... "Well, I suppose we can leave whenever it's convenient for you if you really want to come along. I'm sure my Master won't mind a delay if it's for you."

"We'll see. I'll think about it." Zathris eyed the door that led to the kitchen in an almost mournful manner. "It's taking a while. I hope Barthella makes the wait worth it."

Isily didn't mind the wait, she liked Zathris and getting to spend time with him was limited mostly to their lunches together. "She usually does. Of course, there was the stuffed wherry she made a few sevendays back. It was so salty, I thought I'd have to drink the entire river to get the taste out of my mouth!"

"That's the first time I've ever tried something that wasn't absolutely delicious." Zathris agreed. He had eaten it anyway, regardless of the salt. It was salty, yes, but it wasn't completely unpleasant and it would have been a shame to waste it. "Let's hope her streak remains true?"

She raised her glass in agreement. "Let's."
