Edele looked up as someone walked into the room. She had expected it to be Jerroll but was met, instead, with tall, well built man - a dragonrider from his knots. "Oh...hello!" The visitor wasn't expected at all.
"You wouldn't happen to be Edele would you?" Y'nub leaned against the door frame and crossed his arms as he took in the woman Jerroll had once described for him. He'd given an accurate enough description, though she didn't appear to be anything that special.
"Yes." The woman nodded slowly. Edele thought he looked comfortable enough on a ship - either someone who had been on ships a lot or simply had a natural affinity for them. Of course, they were docked which could make a world of difference. "Is there something I can do for you?"
Y'nub pushed off from the frame and approached Edele with an easy swagger. "Some dinner would be nice if you've any to spare. I brought my uncle here to do a little bit of business with Lerra and have some time to kill before he'll be finished with all the details."
"Certainly." Edele turned away and moved to a pot. "There's not much left, but you're welcome to what we have. There's plenty of bread though." She scooped out the last of the meat and gravy and then put a couple of tubers that had been left. From a small pantry, she pulled out a bit of bread and cut a thick slice. There wasn't enough room for a table, but there was a chair. Edele handed the plate over to the dragonrider. "Please, sit down."
He didn't begrudge the simpleness of the meal. He'd grown up on simple foods that fed the entire crew so this was nothing new to him and he took it thankfully. "So you're still liking it here I presume? Haven't gotten tired of old Jeroll yet?"
Edele laughed softly. "Why would I be tired of him? I love it here, I love him." She had her back to him as she spoke, her hands working at the pot that had once contained the meat and gravy which had been finished off by him. "Were you a seacrafter once?"
"A long time ago." Y'nub replied after he swallowed a bite. Now he knew why Jeroll kept her around, the meal was delicious. "Nothing like home cooking though."
"I thought so." She could tell by the way he held himself, even if the ship wasn't moving. 'Land lovers' as they were called tend to move differently. "I'm glad you like it. There's more bread if that's not enough to fill you."
"I don't want to short you. I'll get more at the Weyr if I need it." Y'nub waved off the offer. Word didn't need to get back to Lerra and Jerroll that he was stuffing himself, it would look bad on his uncle.
"We have grain to make more, and we'll be getting more grain so it's not a problem." As if to prove her point, Edele went ahead and cut off another thick slice of bread. "How is the food?"
"Gone." Y'nub passed the plate over as he took the bread from her. There was something very soothing about sitting in the belly of a ship with a cook and just talking about nothing. He didn't have to pretend on a ship, he could be himself and not play games. He might have to come home more often.
Edele laughed and took the plate. She had to admit, it made her feel good to have her cooking appreciated. He seemed nice enough. Perhaps they would meet again.
