Date: month 6, day 10 of Turn 5
Briata had originally gone to the Headwoman's office, only to find it empty. It had taken a bit of tracking, she had stopped multiple times to ask various people if they had seen her until finally, Briata caught up to the very busy woman. She hurried over before Solieira could escape from view. "Pardon me, Headwoman." Briata fairly panted after her rush, "I need to speak with you."
Sol paused as Briata flagged her down in the corridors. "My word, lass. It must be important if you've run me to ground like this. " The kind Headwoman tipped her chin toward a curtained alcove. "Lets just step out of the way, shall we? I'm always ready to listen."
"Well..." It wasn't really _that_ important, but Briata had wanted to Solieira to know as soon as possible. It wasn't fair to the Headwoman to have the news come too long after the decision had been made. "I just have some news."
"News is it?" As they stepped aside, Sol's eyes narrowed a bit. "Its those baker boys, again isn't it? Almost Journeymen or not, I'll skin their hides!!! What have they done, then? Did they make a pass at you? They've been getting after my kitchen helpers lately." Sol's hand tapped at her thigh, almost in the motion she'd use with a wooden spoon. And _had_ used on those scorching baker boys more than once.
"Oh, no, nothing like that." Briata held her hands up as if to defend the boys she mentioned. She didn't want them to get in trouble over nothing! "No, it's just...I wanted to let you know that I've apprenticed to the Weaver craft so I won't be working in the lower caverns. I thought you should know directly."
Sol was sure the boys had still caused some sort of problems, but maybe not with Briata. "Ahh! Apprenticed have you? Thats very fine. Though, I hate to tell you, that even as an Apprentice, you will still be doing a few chores, though for the Craftfolk not necessarily the Weyrfolk." Sol smiled at Briata and added, "I'm glad to see you really settling into the Weyr, lass."
"I know, I just thought you should know so you could make adjustments." Briata let her gaze wander away from the headwoman. Settling down at the Weyr. It wasn't where she had _wanted_ to settle down, but what else was she to do? She could have gone to Dolphin Cove, but...well, she was at River Bluff and that was where she was going to try and make a home. "Thank you Headwoman. Is there anyone else I should do to get things settled?"
"Not a thing, lass. I'll visit with the Masters. I'm thinking they'll want you to move quarters, but I think you're close already to them. They'll put together a schedule for you and keep you occupied. Just mind you don't get into trouble like those baker boys when I take my eyes off 'em." She grinned to take the sting out of it. "Thank you for letting me know, Briata."
Briata can't help but giggle at the mention of the boys. "Yes ma'am...and thank you. Sorry to change things so suddenly, but..." But she needed to do something more - something more than what she was, something that wasn't dragonriding and this interested her.
"Thinking nothing of it, Briata. The Weyr can only be your home if you make it your home, and that's one way to accomplish it. I'll always be available if you need to chat or you need anything, all right?" Those kind brown eyes looked her over for a moment.
"Thank you." Briata's smile relaxed and she nodded. "Thank you headwoman, for everything."
