"Yes, but is it _straight_?" B'ram cocked his head to the side, though that didn't seem to help. Now everything looked crooked.
"You're not going to tell if you look at it like _that_," Traelyn chuckled from the sofa. "But it seems fine to me, B'ram."
He backed up a bit so he could see it from a distance. "Do you think it gets a little... lost... on that wall?"
She shook her head, amused that he was hanging it to begin with. A wrestling certificate? Right beside a drawing of Girifith? Only B'ram. "Nope. It fits perfectly there. It's....you." Grinning, she curled her knees up on the sofa.
"It's _me?" he asked, turning to look at her over his shoulder with an amused grin. B'ram knew she was mocking him now. "What exactly does _that_ mean, goldrider?"
"Nothing insulting! Just....only you would hang a wrestling certificate next to your dragon and official Weyr momentos."
"Hey now," he replied, his eyebrows raised, "I worked _hard_ for that certificate. You were there, you saw the guy I was up against. You certainly couldn't have pinned him in less than a minute."
She raised up her hands. "I know, I know. You definitely deserve the certificate." Her eyes gleamed wickedly. "You _are_ rather hard to pin down."
He turned to face her, a malicious smile spreading across his face. "Doesn't stop you from trying, though, does it."
"Trying is what makes it fun." Her answering smile was provocative. "...As you know."
"Are you suggesting that you might try to pin me?" The brownrider walked slowly towards her, eying her like a hungry feline. "Or are you asking me to pin you?"
"I never _ask_, brownrider," she told him archly, watching him come closer and closer. "You know that," she purred once he was close enough to hear her murmur.
"Never with words," he agreed, placing a hand on either side and leaning close, "but I know when your eyes are begging for it."
Her lips parted, but she refused to give in and kiss him. Instead she leaned in and brushed the tip of her nose against his. "Of course you do," she whispered. "You've been in my bed enough to know."
B'ram's lips had just barely touched hers when they heard the sound of a knock on the door. "Oh Faranth's name," he growled. How was it people had such perfect timing?
"Don't get it, B'ram."
As he leaned in again for another, much more thorough kiss, he decided that was just what he was going to do. Until he heard a voice through the door. A woman's voice. "B'ram?" Was that...? Leaning back slightly he listened as the call was repeated. Shards, that certainly sounded like... "I'll just see what they want really quickly and then I'll be back. Don't go anywhere," he whispered as he leaned in for just one more quick kiss.
Traelyn watched him go over to the door and open it. She couldn't see who it was, and the woman wasn't speaking loud enough for her to pick up on any words. Was it a drudge? Her brow furrowed when B'ram looked over his shoulder at her. She couldn't read the expression in his eyes, and she knew her own were asking questions she couldn't voice. And she knew that when he stepped out into the hall--and making sure to close the door behind him--the woman certainly couldn't be a drudge. Shards, who was she?
B'ram stepped back in the room, making sure to close the door behind him. "I'm sorry," he murmured softly as he walked back over to the sofa. The lusty light had faded from his eyes as he leaned down to kiss her softly. "I have to go talk to someone really quick. It won't take long. Just wait here. I'll be back soon and we can pick up where we left off."
Before he could rise from her, she slid a hand over his arm. "What's wrong?" she asked quietly, trying to search his eyes.
"Just an old friend... came a long way to see me. Just let me talk to them for a few minutes, and I'll be back. I'll be back." Kissing her once more he pulled away. "Wait for me. I won't be long."
Traelyn couldn't help the pang of jealousy she felt as he walked out, closing the door behind him. It irritated her that he had called the woman "them"--as if she didn't already know his "old friend" was a woman. He probably wanted to prevent her from feeling the emotions creeping up on her now by wording his evasive response the way he had--but his efforts hadn't done any good. She was who she was--jealous, suspicious, possessive. Trying to shove it all away, she settled more comfortably on the sofa to wait for him.
