Description: B'vin's Wingleader hears about the incident with D'cal
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 7, day 18 of Turn 5
"Yes?" B'vin could guess why he was called to his Wingleader's office. The coincidence would be too much if it was for anything other than the punch he'd landed on D'cal.
"Hit any good dragonriders lately?" K'hetah asked, waving the greenrider into the office with the roll of paper he was filing on the shelf at the back of the room. "Sit down, B'vin. I won't be a moment."
He climbed onto the short step-ladder and carefully placed the roll at the top of the pile on the upper shelf. For a dozen heartbeats he waited and only then did he climb down and, with a final glance up at the rolled charts, did he approach his desk.
"So, have you?"
"I don't know if I'd call him a 'good' dragonrider." B'vin couldn't help it. "But yes, once."
"Hmm." Oh, well. It had been a forlorn hope that the rumour wasn't true. The Wingleader settled himself behind the completely empty desk and eyed the other man. "That's what I heard too. What was it about?"
B'vin frowned. "It was personal, Sir. It won't happen again though, it wasn't exactly the sort of thing I planned on doing."
"I should think not. Is it over - whatever it was? Not just simmering away for another day?"
"I think we said everything that needs to be said." B'vin replied after a moment. He certainly had no intention of speaking to D'cal again.
"Thrown all the punches that need to be thrown?" K'hetah asked hopefully.
B'vin gritted his teeth. K'hetah made it sound like it was some sort of a game, that the fight had meant nothing. He didn't know how devastating it all was for him. "It wasn't my original plan. I didn't mean to do it, it just happened."
"But he's not going to ambush you and start it all again?" the Wingleader persisted. He didn't want to treat it like an isolated incident and have it turn into a long-running feud.
"The coward ran away, he's not coming after me." B'vin said with a grunt. If he had, perhaps B'vin could've had an excuse to hit him again.
Which wasn't sound particularly _over_ to the bronzerider's mind. "Well, next time don't hit him. Or anybody. But especially not another dragonrider."
"Yes sir." B'vin replied readily enough. It was the only answer he could really give.
"I mean it. One mistake is one; two mistakes is unforgivable." K'hetah had some fairly stern ideas about self-control among dragonriders, despite his apparently easy-going leadership of the Wing. The problem was there was nothing to say if it was an isolated incident or a pattern of behaviour that would escalate. Not yet, anyway. "Your choice of punishment for this incident - extra sweepriding or watch duty." Both jobs that involved long stretches of time to think. Traditional punishments for most things.
"Sweepriding." B'vin replied. At least then he was alone and not pestered by holders who wanted little favours done for them.
"All right. A sevenday, extra sweeps. The Wingthird will assign the areas. And if there's something we - the Wingsecond, 'Third, or myself - can do in any other situations, come to us before you use your fists."
