Teseada

Teseada

Y'nub saw her, standing at the edge of the sands half in shadow, watching Onnyth as the queen hovered over what he could only assume to be newly clutched eggs. He'd been avoiding her since the flight that had brought him and Teseada together, but now there was no avoiding her. He wouldn't miss this, Larweth's first in what he hoped would be many clutches, just to keep the promise he'd made to himself to stay away from her.

He thought about having a seat in the stands, he could avoid her that way, but he was drawn to her side, almost as if against his will. "How many did I miss?"

"Three," she said, barely acknowledging the arrival of the bronzerider.

"Onnyth didn't say anything to Larweth, it's a good thing I happen to be getting some lunch." he replied. Of course the polite thing to do would have been for Teseada to send him a messenger.

"The drudge didn't find you then?"

Y'nub shook his head. He wanted to believe that she was telling the truth, but he didn't really. She hated him. "Must have missed me. Onnyth usually secretive about her eggs?"

"She was last time, even I almost missed the first egg," Teseada turned to study Y'nub briefly. "I did send someone, I'll be having words with Nurinda when I catch her, I told her to go straight to U'kaiah and have him release you from duties to come here."

Of course she called on U'kaiah for help. U'kaiah knew before even _he_ knew. Now wasn't the time for sharp words though, he needed to be calm, he didn't want them to start fighting again and have her kick him out. He wouldn't miss this because Teseada was pitching a fit. "Must have just missed us, like I said, I heard in the dining cavern."

"The main thing is that you are here." Teseada turned back to study the sands as Onnyth stepped back to reveal another egg. The shell glistened in the light, and Onnyth delicately turned it and placed in to position. "that makes four, and it is a good size egg as well, the first one seemed a little small to me."

Y'nub moved closer to Teseada to try and see the egg in question. They all looked fine to him, though he wasn't exactly close, nor an expert. "A green maybe?"

"Possibly, although she surprised us all last time."

"Well, as long as it's healthy, I suppose it doesn't matter." Y'nub replied as he watched the queen. He could feel Larweth's pleasure and pride swelling in him. He was finally a father. He had finally proven himself.

"No, it doesn't. And so long as the right candidate is there Onnyth will be overjoyed."

"So will Larweth." Y'nub said, his focus blurred as he let his dragon's emotions fill him. "I tell you Teseada, Larweth has never been happier. I didn't realize... Thank you."

The goldrider mellowed a little, the praise was nice.

}:We deserve it,:{ Onnyth said smugly as she revealed another egg. }:Larweth flew well, and we will have a fine clutch.:{

**I know, but...**

}:Larweth is not so bad, his rider may learn to understand how he hurt you one day.:{

With Teseada wondering how the dragon could be so wise sounding, she turned to Y'nub. "I should thank you too, there would be no eggs without you and Larweth."

The kind words from Teseada, confused Y'nub, but they helped him to clear it head and damped down his emotions. Teseada _never_ had kind words for him, so he was go guard now. "I'm sure _some_ bronze would have flown Onnyth."

"It wasn't just some bronze," she retorted. "It was your bronze, and you know that he wanted it as much as you did."

"He did." Y'nub agreed. "He's always been protective of her."

Much as she wished she couldn't agree with that statement, she knew deep down it was true. "Larweth did well, look, there are eight fine eggs now."

Y'nub had been watching, he'd been hard pressed to tear his eyes away from the enlarged gold. "From what I understand, it's customary for a small wager to be made as to the number of eggs?"

"So they say," she replied. "And who would we be to break with custom?"

Though Y'nub was never much for custom, he said, "I'll say thirty five then."

"I think I'll go for an even 32, this is only her second clutch," said Teseada after a moment. "If you are right though, then I'll have some new buckles made for Larweth's straps, I know some good metal workers at the Technician's Hall who would love the commission."

It was a somewhat larger wager than Y'nub had expected. Still, he wasn't to be outdone. "And if you're right, then how about an arm cuff or bracelet? I know a few good metal workers as well."

"What ever you think suits bronzerider," replied Teseada relaxing slightly. Perhaps it wasn't going to be so bad after all dealing with him again.
