Takala bolted down the hall, late for the candidate classes. He never even saw the girl in front of him until he knocked her down. "I'm so sorry!" he gasped reaching down to help her up.
Qarinoa smiled at the young man who had tackled her, "It's no problem." she grasped his hand as he helped her up, "Now I can have an excuse for being late to candidate class."
"I'm Takala, tanner, you?"
"Qarinoa, healer." She looked at the young tanner, with her laughing eyes, approvingly. Tossing her vibrant red hair to the opposite side of her face, so she could see him, she asked how long he had been at the Weyr.
"My parents transferred here just after I was born. I'm a Weyrbrat born and raised. My father's a tanner and my mother works in the cavern's."
Qarinoa smiled in recognition, "I knew I had seen you before, I just hadn't met you. I've been here since I was six, my parents died in an accident a weyrling found me wandering out side the Weyr and I've lived here ever since."
She watched the tanner as she explained, he wasn't bad looking at all, but he also seemed nice, hard to find nice and handsome young men. He seemed to be a bit young though, ah well, she enjoyed having a new friend.
"I think I remember hearing my mother talk about someone being found. Lucky for you hu?" He was only slightly oblivious to the measuring look from the older girl. He _had_ been raised in the Weyr after all. "You like it here I take it."
"Oh, yes of course!" She saw their classroom door ahead, "Here's our class. Do _you_ want to explain why we're late?"
"Maybe they won't notice, I think the weyrlingmaster's third is handling the class today."
"Lets hope so," she smiled at Takala. He was about to open the door when she stopped his arm, "I was wondering if you would like to have lunch sometime, us weyrbrats need to stick together." She smiled her dashing smile as encouragement.
"Umm sure." He grinned, "If we don't hurry then we will get into trouble."
Qari smiled in agreement.
