Description: Hanni and T'bel gossip over weyrbrats, U'kaiah, and the new Weyrleader
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 10, day 21 of Turn 5
That Galwen! T'bel grabbed the cup of klah from the ungrateful midget
before stalking out of the kitchen. Sometimes it was shocking to think
how such a beautiful man like G'waren had spawned such a dimglow. A
shaft of sunlight beaming in from the lower Caverns door was too much for
a man in his delicate condition. Spying a familiar blond ponytail in a
thankfully dark corner, T'bel made his way past the crowded tables,
noting that none of his drinking mates were to be seen.
"Hey girl, I've got a shocking hangover. Bloody D'nev could drink a
dragon under the table." T'bel shut up to gulp at the klah, glancing to
the pretty girl only three turns his juinor.
"That'll teach you to go drinking with blueriders..." Hanni grinned. "But
I do know a good cure for the hangover."
"Keep talking girl! I need all the help I can get."
"Get youself a good meal, and it's water you want to be drinking, not
that klah." Hanni might have been stating the obvious when she said that.
"That ale probably made you even more thirsty."
"Yeah, well," he muttered, "it's all G'waren's little brat's fault."
"What's the kid done now?"
"I try and set him up with D'nev, tell_that_one how pretty he is, how
much he'd like him, and then...last night...nothing! Just that silly child turning red over a few comments and bloody D'nev too deep into his pint to make a move. Of course, looking at how much he drank he probably
couldn't make a move, if you know what I mean," T'bel snickered, rolling
his eyes.
"Well you know D'nev's taste runs more to my kind of person," commented
Hanni. After all there was his sometime wife working in the kitchens,
and rumours of other women had occasionally floated past her ears.
"Yeah well, I_was_desperate," he muttered, taking another sip of his mug.
"I thought the kid would be pretty enough for D'nev's tastes. And shards
and shells, what's going to happen to that kid when he Impresses a green?
I know G'waren's head is in the clouds and_he_thinks his boy's the next
bronze rider and future Weyrleader." He snorted at that disllusion.
"Maybe he doesn't want to stand?"
"Oh, he wants to Stand. He wants to warm some man's bed as well, looking
at the way he mopes after E'naer. It's just between his fostermother and
G'waren, that poor kid can't just be himself." He stopped to think for a
moment and take another sip. "Y'know....are you any good at cutting
hair?"
"Depends," she looked T'bel in the eyes. "Don't expect me to take care of
other needs though."
"Girl, we can turn a watchweyr into a dragon with a haircut and some nice
clothes for that child. Trust me, I've seen him cleaned up and relaxed.
He_is_bloody pretty!" He leaned closer to her. "But look at us, talking
about some weyrbrat when there's crazier stuff out there. Like, did
you_here_what U'kaiah did?"
"After the flight you mean?" Hanni's eyes widened, it was no secret that
she'd shared a roll in the furs with the bronzerider on occasion. "He's
usually such a good tumble, if you know what I mean. That was so not
him."
"What the bloody shells was he playing at? Raping that poor girl like
he's some bloody Lord Holder! Are they going to do_anything_about that?"
T'bel pointed in the general direction of the Weyrleader's weyrs.
"Not that I've heard, and that girl, I heard that the healers were
needed." Gossip travelled fast in a Weyr, and especially around flights.
"I think she's not going to be around flight rooms for a long while."
"She's not going to be around anywhere, from what I heard. Little Galwen
can come good when it comes to kitchen gossip. They're all saying she
may
be leaving the Weyr for good! And bloody U'kaiah's not going to pay at
least a bit for that?" He shook his head at that thought. "There's no
excuse, not even a mating Flight. Girl, I know we're always on the
winning end of_those_but I've got enough friends who are blue riders to
know that you're not_that_much out of control when you lose."
"True," Hanni agreed. "But where will she go, as far as the holders are
concerned she won't make a useful marriage now. Not when the story of why
she left the Weyr comes out."
"I know," he mused. "Poor girl, the rumour is she just wants to go back
to her home Hold, probably to be with her mama and sisters for a bit. I
tell you what, some men need a long long time /between/ or something, the
crap they get away with." T'bel stared hard at the shaft of light for a
moment, thinking about his own mother and brothers left behind in a
backward Hold.
To lighten the mood, he continued, "did you_hear_the funny speech he gave
the dragons after all that at well?"
"Samdrath said something about it."
"So did my Fanth. Very funny, even though she probably messed it up a
bit. What did Samdrath say?"
"Something about not trusting a dragon ever again."
"Hmm, I wonder if he includes his own dragon in that statement," T'bel
muttered, amused. Sighing and glancing once more in the direction of the
Weyrleader's weyr, he asked, "what do you make of our new leader?"
"I don't know an awful lot about him, however if Samdrath could persuade
his bronze to chase her..."
"Ugh! Girl, he is_nasty!_If Fanth ever got his bronze to chase her, I'd
personaly skin her green hide!" He shuddered thinking about it. As if anyone but Manarth would Fly his green beauty. The two dragons were as
much weyrmates as he and G'waren were.
Finishing his klah, he gave her a sly look. "Okay girl, go grab your
scissors, I'll grab that weyrbrat, Where should we take our victim?"
"Somewhere he can't run?" she suggested.
