Lenala

Lenala

M'galec quietly laid the plates out on the table with pastries, bread, butter, jam. He had made sure breakfast would not be something that could go cold. The bronzerider hope Lenala would sleep as long as her body and mind needed. He sat down on the sofa with a mug of klah and waited for stirring from the direction of the sleeping room.

He'd finished the mug before Lenala appeared in the doorway from the sleeping chamber, looking small and frail and nothing like her usual confident self. "Good morning."

"Good morning," he said, rising to his feet and looking her over. She definitely was much changed. What had that sharding flight _done_ to her?
"Did you sleep all right?"

"I did, thank you." She had slept deeply and dreamlessly, and while her body felt better, she still felt emotionally off balance. Almost fragile, which terrified her more than she wanted to admit.

"I had breakfast brought up for you," he said as he walked over to the table. The bronzerider pulled out a chair for her. "You should eat something."

She settled into the chair and struggled to summon a more normal smile. "Are you going to be a bossy healer?"

"Only if being a concerned friend doesn't work." He smiled back, encouraged at her attempt at least.

"A friend would be welcome." Lenala pushed the chair next to her out with one foot, hoping he'd take the hint and sit down. Having him hovering behind her was a little intimidating.

He took the hint willingly and reached for the warmed pot of klah. "How are you feeling this morning?"

"A little sore," she admitted, holding out an empty mug and letting him pour her some klah. "I think I could use a soak in the bathing pool." "How lucky. I _do_ have a bathing pool," though perhaps not as luxurious as the one that was undoubtedly in _her_ weyr, "and even a clean extra towel."

She stiffened slightly, suddenly not willing to look at him. "That would be nice." M'galec had kept his word and behaved as a perfect gentleman for the entire night, but Lenala couldn't help but feel like she was putting herself further and further into his debt. There was only one form of payment she was used to having men expect from her, and it wasn't something she felt very much in the mood to be giving. The bronzerider was innocent of her concerns as he sliced off a piece of bread and buttered it. "Would you like one?" he asked as he began cutting more slices.

"Yes, please." She wrapped her fingers around her klah mug and took a sip. He lightly buttered a slice and set it on her plate. "Will you be doing full duties today?"

Lenala traded her mug of klah for the bread. "Yes, I'm behind in my hidework again, so I'll probably be in my office most of the morning."

M'galec shook his head. "No, I don't like that idea. You need more time.
You have been through a traumatic experience and what your body and your mind need is to rest. While you take your bath I will go to the Weyrwoman and ask her to excuse you for a couple more days on health reasons."

"That's not necessary," Lenala protested, finally meeting his eyes. "I don't want to make a big deal out of this, M'galec. People gossip enough as it is."

"I don't care about people's gossip, Lenala. I care about _you_." He sighed as he reached for her hand. "All right, I'll tell you what. I'll tell the Weyrwoman you will be doing your hidework out of the office for the next couple days. I'll run by your office, and when you are finished with your soak it will be here waiting for you." "M'galec..." She squeezed his hand, hoping he would understand how grateful she was.

The bronzerider covered her hand with his other. She would relax the next couple days. He would see to it personally. And if she was so determined to work, he would make sure there was a romantic tale or two tucked in among the hides to tempt her into taking the break she truly needed. "Now, lets finish our breakfast. Shall we?"
